Hey, what do you guys think about the Lion King conspiracy. It basically states that Disney ripped it off from the Japanese series Kimba the White Lion.

sorry Thoughtcriminal84 I can't watch any saturday morning cartoons since I'm not american ,nor do I live in the U.S.

I do watch crtoon network though and they have some pretty neat stuff like Cow&chicken,
Dexter's lab etc. I think those cartoon are amusing and I like the animation in them too.
I liked Ren&stimpy also.

Of course the level of anime and manga is so much higher that there isn't much point in even discussing a comparison between them.

Don't forget South Park and Dr. Katz on Comedy Central! But I guess those don't really count...

Generalize? The whole concept of this thread was based on the generalization that most US animation sucks. Thats also a generalization. When one speaks in wholes as I did I speaking for the popular majority, which at this time is pokeman type japanese animation. Which is non-sensical crap.

I hear people make the the argument of generalization, but it makes little sense. Is every person who posts supposed to recognize every small aspect of an argument? I know that japanese animation is varied, but for the popular majority of it at the moment is the pokeman type: flashy, fast and IMO non-sensical.

I have lived in Japan and I know the people there (or shall I say culture so I don't "generalize" again). They are very awed by the cartoonish, flashy and what we here in the US would call childish. It's a fact. Now so I don't generalize again I will mention that I am referring to the popular majority.

But I would suggest not using the generalization reply much. It is weak and very rarely speaks to the argument of the poster.

Hah???

The very fact that he said "most" american animation is bad erases the concept of generatlizations. He clarified what he was talking about and gave examples to what he meant by "most", including disney.

You came out and said Japanese animation sucks. The whole of it. Others were forced to clarify that some of it is different than what you descrbed, as "non-sensical...flashing...and oblong" whatever. I get that you don't like that stuff, that isn't what other posters critisized. They were saying that some of their animation is different, you as much as stated it wasn't.

Now, if you want to prove that other people falsely interpreted your statements I recommend you first reread your post and that of the others before you. Its not fair for you to critisize people who were trying to simply point something out to you and anyone else who might want to know.

Ok, you "meant" in general for japanese animation, but you didn't "say" it. Your mistake not others. If you would just make your point that would be great...no need to ambush other posters. Thank You.

Well, I'll have to admit I'm not a big fan of anime. I generally prefer realism in art and find that anime is more 'dumbed down' artistically than traditional animation. However, I have to admit that some anime is beautifully produced and rather impressive given its (IMO) limitations. Certainly traditional animators could learn some quality control lessons from the anime folk.
Countering this, some modern CG animation is fantastic. Have any of you seen some of the VeggieTales videos? Brilliant stuff if you like sunday school stories featuring walkign, talking vegetables....though technically Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato are fruits http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Pluvious: I couldn't agree more with you.

Drewids: My post regarding your 'generalised' argument was, as Pluvious states, NOT an attack on your opinions regarding Japanese animation, but rather a PERSONAL comment on your method of conveying forth those opinions. Whether intentional or not, you basically slapped anime fans in the face and told them they were 'people who like the bad kung-fu movies'. That's not exactly a respectful thing to do.

Thank you Pluvious for your views and support.

IMHO... ^_^
