SPOILER WARNING !

While I rarely read anything from the Realms and DL sagas anymore, (although I am still a big Salvatore fan and read every new Drizzt book he releases) I have gotten alot of enjoyment out of reading many a FR and DL trilogy or saga over the years. What are your all time favorite trilogies, sagas, or standalones from the worlds of Faerun and Krynn ??

In Forgotten Realms, I would have to say I think the Dark Elf Trilogy is my all time favorite. Obviously Drizzt is one of my favorite characters in fantasy literature, but I was also amazed by the world and culture building in that trilogy. The culture and topographical/geographical descriptions of Menzoberrrazan (spelled wrong I am sure *lol*) were fascinating.

As for Dragonlance, It would have to be The Legends Trilogy. Simply because Raistlin was a remarkable character. There was alot of depth to his character, so much internal struggle and strife. And he is definetly one of my favorite mage characters I have ever read.

What are your thoughts and opinions ??

:)

BTW...This could be a possible spoiler thread for anyone who has not read Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance stuff and are planning too...so here is a spoiler warning.

SPOILER WARNING !

You want favorites now or favorites from a terribly distant youth?

how about both? :D

I liked Legends and Chronicles, but one thing I really enjoyed in Dragonlance was the Dwarven Nations trilogy. I guess it was probably my first brush with historical context. Weasel's Luck was pretty amusing too, laughed a lot at that one.

Yeah in FR the Drizzt books are my favourites too. I tried some of the other stories but they didn't really do it for me. I read the trilogy about the Time of Troubles and although it had some good moments it seemed kind of flat overall. Salvatore's Cleric Quintet was okay, the last book made the series though IMO (although I've seen people say the complete opposite)

I've read a lot of DL and FR back when I was a youngster. I guess my favs were:

DL

Chronicles
Legends
The Legend of Huma
Kaz
Tanis: The Shadow Years
The Elven Nations Trilogy
Brothers in Arms (The Raistlin Chronicles)

Yeah, Raistlin is a great character, but he's the best when he's with Caramon. Tanis and Laurana are favs too.

FR

The Icewind Dale Trilogy

I didn't care that much about the Dark Elf Trilogy, but I really liked the Icewind Dale books.

Whatever favorites you want :)

From a not-so-distant youth:

Dragonlance Legends and Chronicles were some of the earliest fantasy books I read and I remain guilty pleasures to date. I also liked the two Galen books: Weasel's Luck and Galen Beknighted, as well as The Legend of Huma. Didn't like the 4th Chronicles book so much nor the next generation books.

Amongst the Realms books, my favourites remain Spellfire and the Maztica Trilogy. I've never got around to reading any of the Salvatore books.

Shehzad,

I can't believe you like Spellfire. It's one the worst "books" ever!!! :p

Yes, but it was a long, loooong time ago, in a not-so-far-away galaxy. Also: it was the first FR book I read and I liked some of the characters. The story itself was rubbish of course.

Another one I just remembered: Azure Bonds. That was a pretty good one too...

Funnily enough, I only own about 4 FR books, and of those one is Azure Bonds and the other is Spellfire. Small world.

It's been a long time since I have read any DL, but some of them stand out in my mind as very good. Those are:
Chronicles and Legends (naturally)
Lord Toede
Elven Nation Trilogy
Dwarven Nation Trilogy
Kaz (Magius is a fantastic character)
Huma
The Raistlin Chronicles
