I've come across a few books in my time that seem to get alot of bad press, or reviews from readers, and yet, when I gather to courage to read them, I find them quite good.

Two series have stuck me like that.

One, is out of print, but it was Agnus Wells "Exiles Duology". I loved this series, and I consider it to be one of my treasure in my collection of books.

Also, The Shadow Ararat by Thomas Harlan. I also loved the first book.

Glen Cook's Black Company series seems more accepted in the community of Fantasy readers, but, most folks who generally read fantasy seem to dislike them quite abit.

Any others?

I fricken love The Black Company Books, especially the first book (and the first trilogy).

As for books with bad press: I really, really loved David Eddings Sparhawk books (The Elenium and the Tamuli) While I read them when I was 15 or so, I thought them funny and full of adventure. But I'm a sucker for anything with groups of knights on quests.

I'm not a big fan of Shadow of Arat - it just went really weird BUT I agree with Sparhawk series - one of the first fanatsy series I ever read and I hold them close to my heart but yet they get a bad rep *shrugs* I don't mind. But I get what you are saying though ;)
