I just hope it does well so the market demand for fantasy movies will increase. What a pile of crud that D&D movie was. But it was intended for kids. Maybe if lord of the rings does well it will spawn interest in fantasy like star wars did awhile back.

Amen Pluvius! *cross-fingers* I so miss watching fantasy movies like those in the 80's: LadyHawke, Beastmaster, Princess Bride, Krull and those animated movies like Flight of Dragons, The Last Unicorn etc.

Princess Bride is great!!! What about the Neverending Story? Unfortunately I have yet to read either of those 2 books yet.

Lets hope that LOTR blows away Star Wars, which has A LOT of parallels to LOTR.

(Whoo hoo! this is my 200th post!)

Heh, the trailer for the lord of the rings movie is already the most downloaded file from the internet ever, it broke the record of the star wars file.
But hey, i don't really care who wins, star wars of lord of the rings, i want Titanic not to be no.1 anymore.

Besides the "neverending story", which is quite good, there is a better book by Michael Ende: "Momo". It was made into film too I think.
I liked the film "Excalibur" by John Borman

Excalibur is one of my favorite movies of all time. If only the fight scenes would have been a bit more realistic though. You could really tell they were trying not to hurt each other.

FitzFlagg... if ever you do get a copy of Neverending Story... make sure you get a copy based on the original publication, I know this may seem strange, but the text is printed in two different colours... mine is red and green.

Believe it or not... it is vital to understanding the story... and no, I am not pulling your leg.

The Princess Bride, The Neverending Story,Beastmaster, Lady Hawk.. all great movies, but nobody mentioned Willow, i really liked that movie, Madmartigen was such a cool warrior.

"Willow, you are great!" Willow was a fun move. George Lucas (producer or something) of the move teamed with X-Men comic book writer Chris Claremont and wrote a trilogy set a few years after the movie--Shadow Moon, etc.**I think** that is one of the titles.

Dennizm: I am in the U.S. so I may not be seeing the same version (Neverending Story)you have. I have seen two differnt version of the book, however. Wasn't the book originally written in French?

I took an Arthurian Legend class in college and I wrote a paper on the parallels between Excalibur and some of the myths we read in the class--I got an A-. I love the movie, and the music is awesome! It always gets my blood pumping.

"The neverending story" was written by Michael Ende, a german author, who died two or three years ago. The original title is "Die unendliche Geschichte"
The book was printed in two different colours.
Ende wrote many other wonderful books but he`s regarded as a childrens' author in Germany.
All of his books have fantasy elements. "Momo" is borderline , maybe like Harry Potter.
Ende himself was not happy with the film. I think he even tried to stop it because he didn't want his work to be commercialized.
