SFF Vote for the Hugos (Novels)

The voting for the Hugos closed on July 31st. But I thought it would be interesting to run our own poll here and see what our winners are, and compare them to the actual winners in September.

So I have listed the names of the books, with a "No Award" entry for those who feel none of the books deserve it. I would like to keep the poll open until the day before the actual Hugos are awarded, September 3rd.

Ilium - from what I've read - is a bold and complex novel. I wish I had read all of them though.

I don't feel qualified to vote as I have only read Paladin of the Souls, and the first few chapters of Ilium. I did think that Paladin of the Souls showed LMB's writing going from strength to strength, it was well written, an unusual sequel and had a strong female protagonist. What more could I ask for? Except perhaps another installation of the Vorkosigan saga. Ilium I reserve judgement on, as it is too complex to have really got started where I am!

I'm ashamed to say that the only ones I've read are "Ilium" and "Singularity Sky," but (while really, really enjoying "Singularity Sky"), "Ilium" blew me away. It was amazingly good, had tons of great, great stuff in it, gave me an added education in Western Lit, inspired me to read the actual Iliad, and had really memorable characters. Not every day can you point to a SF books with all of those things, plus solid speculation, interesting descriptions of post-humans and Jovian system robots. It gets my vote.

I have read them all except Blind Lake and Humans.

I have The Sawyer book and will read it, while nothing on earth could make me read the Wilson book. I was so unhapy with Darwinia that I won't be reading any more of his books.

I too loved Ilium and it is my choice for the award. I am having a hard time deciding on number two, as I really liked both Bujold's book, and Stoss' book.

I like Sawyer but he is mostly SF-lite so I would put him 4th, and then just ignore Wilson.

Poor Charles Stross can't seem to get a vote. I liked his book, but unfortunately it isn't in the same league as Ilium

I am having trouble with Ilium as it seems to be dragging for me at the moment. I don't know how others feel but I would like for it to get to the point as I can see where Dan Simmons is taking me - kind of - but the route seems to be twisting and he seems to be meandering along it! so when I am done, it may be that I shall vote for Paladin of the Souls if this doesn't pick up.

Wow, so Poor Charlie still can't get a vote - or do people just not want to vote for him because I didn't spell his last name right ?

Oh well, I liked his book, but not enough to vote for him :(

As I recently added Paladin of the Souls to my to-read shelf, I am eager to see what happens.....
