Anybody read this book? City of Pearl (http://www.karentraviss.com/city_excerpt.html) is the first novel by Karen Travis (http://www.karentraviss.com) and has received very favorable reviews, from three Locus reviewers, the editor of Barnes and Noble Explorations and from the New York Review of Science Fiction.

I've some other people on other boards mention the book as very good.

Any thoughts?

I loved City of Pearl - it was my favourite SF book of 2004. It's very gritty and 'real' with believably flawed characters with competing motives. The writing is superb.

I've just finished the sequel, Crossing The Line, which was equally as good. I haven't wanted the next title in a series this desparately for many, many years. I hope the third book is released sooner rather than later.

Short of some last minute votes to the contrary, City of Pearl will be the February book for the Book Club. I encourage you all to join in on the discussions (which should start there in about a week) as your comments and insights would be appreciated.
