Does anyone else like these stories? I love them.:D Also, I've discovered that there are novels that continue the stories. Can anyone recommend some? Thank you for any help.:)

Haven't read anything to do with Sherlock Holmes but I only recently watched " The Hound of the Baskervilles "(sp?) on tv . Great story !
Can you enlighten me on the issue of Sherlock pumping poo into his arm throughout the movie , was he a junkie ? :(

He was indeed a junkie. Apparently it was quite the thing for a well to do gentleman to do at the time...

I thought the junkie element was played up rather too much though - they tried to make it seem far more relevant than it really was, imo. Not read the books though, so it's hard to comment on whether they changed the author's intent, or not. Either way, it seemed almost a time-filler to me - not sure what they were trying to achieveby the focus on it.
Oh dear....a rant. I'll stop now!!

He was, yes. If you read the Sherlock Holmes story "The Sign of Four", you'll see how bad it was. I remember in the stories that Watson was always concerned about it. I think he eventually got him to quit though. I don't remember which story it was mentioned in after "The Sign of Four." Does anyone else remember?

Yep, apparently he was a cocaine addict.
Also, (crap fact alert) my old teacher wrote a series of very successful novels based on the detective that appeared in the Holmes books (Abeline?).

What was your teacher's name? Also, what were the names of the books? I think they sound interesting.:)

I've started a plethora of the short stories, but never had any desire to finish them. However, I was in Borders this weekend and there was a stand with "Essential" books to read, and "Hound of the Baskervilles" was there. I bought it and will read it; after I complete some other things, however.

I got "The Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes" awhile ago, but I haven't read it yet. Includes 37 short stories and a full novel.

"Hound of the Baskervilles" is very good. Is the version in the Jeremy Brett TV series good too?
