The Vampire Chronicles - Anne Rice

Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter - Laurell K. Hamilton (I've heard these books have a lot of erotica)

I haven't read them, but I've heard good things about Brian Lumley's Necroscope series.

The LKH books don't have erotica until the last 3 books.

The Lumley series is ok. It gets to be very similar after a while.

The Anne Rice series becomes a real slog, unless you like her style - which is not the same as her other books.

I haven't read them, but I've heard good things about Brian Lumley's Necroscope series.

The first two novels were fantastic, but after that he just starts to repeat himself, even when he takes his characters to the world where vampires came from.

I just remembered another one that I've heard about -- Charlaine Harris writes about vampires in the Southern US. I've only read the first one, Dead Until Dark, and it was fine.

Do two books count as a series? I really liked Donna Boyd's werewolf books -- The Passion and The Promise. I think there will be a third, but I don't know when.

Cheri Scotch wrote a werewolf series too.

It's hard to beat the first three Lestat books, IMHO.

The Vampire Chronicles - Anne Rice
Be very careful with this one. Some books are good, some are excellent, and some are total crap. Anne Rice, for some reason, has a fetish with pedophilia and homosexual relationships. Incest is also heavily prevelent in her writing. My advice is to avoid the following books in the Vampire Chronicles:
The Vampire Armand, Merrick, Pandora, Blackwood Farm, and Blood Canticle. Vittorio the Vampire is worth checking out. Blood and Gold is about Marius, and is also worth checking out.

Avoid the Mayfair Witch series. It's long, dull, and the plot essentially sucks too. If you do read it, you may as well read Blood Canticle too. It's the book that ties the Mayfair Witch series to the Vampire Chronicles.

Really, The Vampire Chronicles peters off and dies after Memnoch the Devil, but it's really good up until that point. Two other excellent books by Rice are The Mummy and Servant of the Bones. Neither are of a series, but both are worth mentioning.

Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter - Laurell K. Hamilton
I read the first one and it completely sucked. I'm glad the book was given to me instead of having bought it.

RepairMan Jack series by F. Paul Wilson
10 books in the series so far, most current one Sept'04

I havent read the series, but I have read Wilson's
Medical thrillers and he has submitted short stories
to numerous Horror Anthologies and I enjoy his
writing style.

Richard Laymon has a whole sequence of books based on something called the Beast House. I've read a couple of these and they're fairly good modern American horror. Worth a read.

I found the tendency the author showed to describe sex with children in detail to be a little disturbing.
I found myself wondering about the author frankly.
I wouldn't read another of them, in fact I would possibly avoid all books by this author.
