I've read the synopsis of a book or series of books several times now, but can't remember what book it is. What stands out for me is the idea of a Rider, not in the sense of horseback, but a character is ridden (her body is taken over temporarily) by gods or entities of some sort: Riders. I'm not even sure if it's a good book, but I wish I could remember what it is. Thanks.

There's a scifi series with a strong fantasy feel by Jack Chalker called Soul Riders. The first book in the series is Spirits of Flux and Anchor.

Thank you Expendable. That doesn't sound like it. This is a pretty current book I think.

There is a book where humans have been colonized by small aliens and turned into mounts. It is relatively recent and called The Mount by Carol Emshwiller. Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1931520038/qid=1101183471/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/102-9480846-6606567)

I have read this and it is good. It is about not only being a physical slave, but how you get to thinking that it is ok and right and how freedom takes more than a lack of chains - so there is some of being taken over with the idea that you are there to serve others.

Also there is a series with 'Rider' in it, the Green Rider. By Kristen Britain the books are: Green Rider and First Rider's Call

I have these but have not read them yet so I am not sure if they fit or not.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks Ficus. It's not The Mount, I'm familiar with that one.

My search also turned up the Green Riders one, but that's not it either. I'm pretty sure horses weren't a part of the story.

I seem to think there was a teenaged girl who was getting tired of those who 'rode' her. Oh well, you'll be sure that if I come across it again, I'll write the name down this time.

Thanks again, all who replied.

My initial thought was the 'SPIRAL' books by Michael Scott Rohan, 'Chase the Morning', 'The Gates of Noon', 'Cloud Castles' and 'Maxie's Demon', which all contained elements of 'possession', willing or otherwise. Good reads BTW.

But perhaps what you're thinking of are some of the writings of Nalo Hopkinson that contain Carribean elements of Vodoun/Voodoo and the like. Try 'Brown Girl in the Ring' or 'Midnight Robber'.

Thanks for giving it so much thought, Soon Lee. Those aren't it, but you've inspired me to move Hopkinson up on my TBR shelves.

I think maybe in my case I should chalk this up to selective brain damage caused by spending more time reading *about* books than actually reading books. :p

Well The Mount came to mind first, but that''s about a boy and as you say, not the one. So I did a search on "girl being ridden" on Google...........well you can imagine what that turned up :p
