Sorry for the post but times are getting desperate. I know there are plenty of posts here to look through, but im at work and i dont have the time!!!

Im asking for an opinion from the wider read of you. Is there anything on the Grand scale of Martin or Erikson that you could recommend. Currently reading the Briar King by Keyes and finding it really enjoyable. I dont know why but i seem to find a small comparison with Martin in there. I know the scale is no where near the same and the book is so much faster paced than Martins but i still seem to draw a few similarities. Ive read Hobb, Feist and the first two of Elliots Crown of stars and recently Williams MS&T series. However i really want something i can get stuck into and be totally immersed in a huge world, great characters, great battles and a brilliant story.

Any help.

Thanks everyone :)

I highly recommend John Marco's Tyrants and Kings series.

This is large-scale, military-orientated fantasy with plenty of violence, backstabbing, intrigue, romance and redemption. The first book is excellent, and the second is even better. Have yet to read the third.

Check out my review of the first book in the series The Jackal of Nar for more information - http://www.sffworld.com/brevoff/162.html

Have you tried R. Scott Bakker's Prince of Nothing?

The Dark Tower is another epic series with great characters.

The Dark Tower sequence by Stephen King. Fantasy certainly doesn't get better then that.

Othen then that J. V. Jones and Melanie Rawn are pretty good too, though not on par with Martin and Erickson.

Have you read Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan?

Melanie Rawn's books are kinda modern young-adultish.

When I read the thread title the first thing that popped into my head was Dan Simmons' Hyperion series, but that's SF. Do you like SF? :)

To be honest ive never read any Sci FI to my knowledge, which is funny as i love Sci Fi Series on TV and Films more than anything. I think one of the main things that draws me to fantasy is the travelling the characters inevitably do in each book, be it through cities, woods, swamps. I suppose i would consider Sci Fi as im running out of options at the moment!!!

On a Greg Keyes note. Bout 30 pages to go in the Briar king, and totally hooked brilliant story and writing. Love how its all come together

Wait till The Charnel Prince. The story continues just as strongly. I'm just about finished with it now.
