I read all 4 in the series about 15 years ago so my memory is a bit hazy but I enjoyed them. Her writing style is different from the norm and I liked her take on good and evil, so I would read the first and if you like it then get the rest.

There are four books in this series but they're actually
two duologies. I read the first duology : Blackbird in Silver
and Blackbird in Darkness. Pretty good novels. Basically
a traditional quest story with some very good characters
and a pretty bleak (British ?) approach.

By the way, I also read her more recent trilogy : Amber
Citadel, Sapphire Throne and Obsidian Tower. These are
also recommended. Once again a pretty simple background
(young people go on a quest to save their land from invasion, elves, love triangles etc...) but well written and
interesting and very human characters. And like always
with British writers : bad things happen to good people !

I read all four of them as well, many many years ago. I loved the first duology and thought the second one was still interesting, but I just bonded with the characters (and their tragedy) from the first two books way more.

Since I read them in the German translation, I sometimes wonder if I will read at least the first duology in English again. There was a new hardcover edition wasn't there? Mmh, maybe they will get a reprint in paperback?

Anyway, I also read that other recent trilogy - which is called the Jewelfire trilogy. It started well but with each book I felt my interest fading. So I would call it okay but would not really recommend that one.

Than again, who knows if I will still love the Blackbird books when reading them now again? Mmh, I think I would. :)
