For all you medieval history buffs, know any medieval history/non-fiction books that read like novels? :cool:

Harold Lamb wrote books like that, he focused on story over scholarship; and story i think is what draws us to history in the first place.

He wrote a two volume history of the crusades that is good reading, 'Iron Men and Saints' and 'The Flame of Islam,' sometimes you see these as an omnibus. they do read like a novel as Lamb is not afraid to use his imagination and paint the scene for us with stirring accounts of battles and seiges, and the personalities of the major players.

he also wrote many other histories and biographies of famous figures: Alexander, Chinngis Khan, Tamerlane, all good stuff.
