Yaaay! You've arrived.
Feel free to let this starter thread drop away and use your own threads about your books, info, bio, road to publication, I know it was a rocky one. I'm sure people will appreciate the Havenstar story, there are a lot of budding writers here and possibly a few book collectors. I just wanted to break the ice.
Looks like you've hit it off with The Dreaded Rad already... snigger, snigger.

I count myself lucky to know Glenda, and to have met her at Conflux last year. What a fabulous lady. And she tells a mean story, too. You don't get 2 Aurealis short lists by being a slouch at the keyboard. The thing I love most about her Glory Isles Trilogy is the fabulous strength of her environments, the way you absolutely see, taste, smell the worlds she's creating. Havenstar had the same effect on me. Also, Glenda takes chances with her work. She pushes the genre boundaries, and I really really admire that. Don't know anything about the upcoming Voyager titles in Mirage Makers trilogy, but I got a lucky sneak peak at Droughtmaster and wow! It rocks big time.

Hi Glenda
Thanks for your answers. It sounds like you have a very interesting life!
Having said that, I also feel that it is not my place as a fantasy writer to bludgeon my readers with my, um, pet obsessions!
No, quite; but I think these understandings do add richness to a story.

Thanks, OzK, for those lovely words. I wish we lived a lot closer to one another and could earbash on a regular basis. (OzK, btw, is another Voyager author with her first book coming out in August. Look out for Karen Miller in the future - I suspect she can tell a rattling good tale!)
Alison: when I announced to my family I was marrying a Malaysian and leaving Australia, my mother gamely swallowed her reservations and said, "Well, at least you'll never be bored." She was right. Another advantage is that I never have any problems in the "where do you get your ideas from" department!

I ordered The Aware too (posted in the Kate Forsyth-section first). Just thought I'd give it a try!

Hi Phedre, do let me know what you think...I am one of those authors who love feedback, even if you don't like my work, so long as you can say why. I reckon I can always learn from my readers.

Glenda, I noticed that Galaxy books (which apparently is the only Australian online bookstore to do a serious forthcoming books approach) has Exaltarch (sp?) listed for late fall release. But they have this listed as the second book of the new "Miragemakers" series. Is this correct? And what happened to book one? It's not listed anywhere that I can find.

Hi John, abstainer from foolosophy (love that!)
The first book in the Mirage Makers trilogy is called Heart of the Mirage and the last I heard from my publishers, it will be out in April. But these things do change from time to time, and I note that Galaxy has it up as May. I have just seen the covers, so it must be getting close .
I am lucky in that one of the staff at Galaxy Books has read it and was over the moon about it, which was lovely. See here (http://galaxybooks.blogspot.com/2005/12/isles-of-glory.html)
Exaltarchy , book 2, has already been submitted to HarperCollins Oz, and the third book, The Song of the Shiver Barrens, is under way. None of them have been sold oversea as yet, but that does take time.
I shall be posted news as I get it on my own blogspot (http://www.glendalarke.blogspot.com)
