I am hoping someone will remember this show.

Alright....probably was on TV during the Mid 80's? Maybe earlier...was scifi...

Now, it was about a Alien (I think) who could harness the power of the sun.. Maybe not a alien, but, something superior to humans...hunted down..

Could harness the power of the sun.. I think he had a necklace that was in the shape of a phoenix?

Any ideas??

Sounds familiar... didn't he have a body that looked like a field of stars and had to wear clothes over it?

This isn't a perfect match but I'm reminded of 80's born cartoon show:

The eponymous Birdman was essentially a mountain-lair dwelling bloke who fought crime dressed as a bird, had an eagle sidekick and made use of weapons powered by solar energy.

"SOLAR SHEILD!" he would cry and a glowy red sheild would appear on his forearm. I think he did other things with this power, and he may also have possessed some kind of bird ship.
