Dean Koontz' Frankenstein

I know this is more horror than fantasy, but I am into genre blends at the moment.

I clicked on the banner ad here at SFFW as I was a little bit intrigued (and am always when someone attempts to re-write a well-known tale).

It seems he is co-writing a *gulp* series!!!

Anyone heard anything on this and what are your opinions and/or reservations?

Well its Dean Koontz so expect an introverted beautiful protagonist who meets an equally introverted beautiful person of the opposite sex who go on an adventure of sorts and meet up with really nice dog. They get together and live relatively happily ever after with the dog.

I for one have chosen to steer clear of Koontz's works, the reason I do is because I've heard and read that they're basically limp-wristed fluff horror, you know, sappy Lifetime Movie Network-quality stuff. Is this staement true though, through what you guys have read of Koontz?

Never read any of this books but seen enough of the straight to TV films that are produced from them to have major doubts about him touching a classic.

Thanks Fitz, came over here from my Horror post

1) loved book 1 - Prodical Son
2) IMHO - I think the series is DK's idea, but the "prose" is Anderson's.
(I've read enough Kevin J. ANderson Novelizations to recognize it)
and recent witings by DK, his witing style was "too wordy" and
had more adjectives than nouns and verbs - just ranting - ex: by the
light of the moon
3) I'm enjoying it because the book reads fast, mind candy, sure
not much 'substance', definitely not literature, but found myself
laughing out load at the Main Male/Female dectives 'banter', and
the "monsters" are 'souless' looking for something they are missing,
that their creator didnt give them.
Oh well, I'm carrying on here, BUT, I am anxious for the next book,.
the co-author (writer) will be ED GORHAM (I've read alot of short
stories by him, in horror anthologies) and will perdict his style I'll like.

It seems to me that Koontz has said somewhere that this series of novels is based on an idea that he submitted to USA Network as a mini-series, but was ultimately never made. Kootz liked the idea so much that he decided to make it into a series of novels.

I also think that when you see a book like this with the name "Kevin J. Anderson" on it, you have to assume that parts of it have been written by his wife, Rebecca Moesta. A postponed book of his called THE MARTIAN WAR (nee MR. WELLS AND THE MARTIANS) was originally scheduled to be published under his penname "K.J. Anderson," but has now been announced as by their shared pseudonym, "Gabriel Mesta."

There was a good Koontz book that I read once... Can't remember the name and read isn't the right word, I listened to it on tape in my car as I delivered pizzas when I was a teen. I must've been Koontz's target audience.

Anyway the plot was something like this:
guy finds out some gov't secrets they send a crazy CIA guy to track him down. This Agent hates sex b/c it's messy. He's an amusing character he has this mantra "Pink in, Green out.". He also hates Mormons and keeps calling them "****ing Mormons." it's amusing at the time b/c it sounds almost like "Morons.". The Agent also falls for this hot girl that works for the NSA monitoring communication traffic that leave North Maerica as that information is not protected under the constitution. Anyway she hates sex for the same reason as him. They start having sex and they try to keep it as clean as possible. Anyone know the name of this book?

What about the films based off of Phillip K Dick? He's a great writer but people make bad movies from his works.

Never read any of this books but seen enough of the straight to TV films that are produced from them to have major doubts about him touching a classic.
