I always enjoy reading this thread in Fantasy, and get great ideas from a similar feature on amazon. I searched for a thread like this in science fiction, with no luck.

I wish I were wider-read to start the thread with a bang, but here's the idea:

If you like William Gibson,
then you might like Cory Doctorow.
They're both good at extrapolation of current trends in technology and society.

Ken Macleod + Iain M. Banks = Perfection

If you like one, you'll like the other ;) (works both ways)

If you like Cory Doctorow, you'll probably like Charles Stross (you can start with "Singularity Sky.") They've even done some collaborations together.

If you like Douglas Adams then you may like James Triptree Jnr and Stanislaw Lem.

No? I was trying to start with someone everyone knows.

Thanks, better. I couldn't figure out if you meant to compare all three with someone else, or one to the others or what. Got it.

If like C J Cherryh, then I think that you would like C S Friedman and Joan Slonczewski.

If you like Douglas Adams, you just may enjoy Grant Naylor. Grant Naylor is actually two men that collaborate, they created and wrote the halarious SF series Red Dwarf. They have published several books though.
