A friend of mine let me borrow a book once and I only got a couple chapters in but he had recommended it to me. I had to give the book back to him before I could finish. I would like to try and find it again but I can't remember the author or the name of the book.

It was something like this -
A teenage girl trapped by a dark angel of sorts in a castle. It was very fairy tale like.

TIA!
James

... What is Meredith Ann Pierce's Darkangel Trilogy (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0152017682/qid=1110615275/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/103-7177625-5995831)?

I'll check it out. That looks like it might be it. Imagine that - I had already named it in my description.

What sort of sub genre is it also associated with? (I'm assuming the first is fantasy.)

It's a pretty old trilogy of books and was first put in the fantasy genre. However, I think it's been re-packaged as YA fantasy, like Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea books.
