 i hope not! Hem's been through too much already - hes had to deal with a lot more than most of the other people his age
and crow lasts for the same amount of time as The Riddle, right? so Hem would be 13 by the end, which makes something between him and Zelika not quite so inconceivable

Yipee more romance!! And he does say that he thinks she's beautiful... ;)

I don't know if Maerad and Cadvan will get together at the end. It all depends on what is meant to happen for the characters -- not what we'd like, but what must happen. I'd really like them to, of course, but I want the story to be believable. Some people say it would be too predictable if they did, but it seems more 50-50 to me. Books these days can go either way. Anyway, I'd rather it was predictable and the story was believable than vice versa.

There's a few reasons why they might not (as far as I know; haven't read The Riddle).

1) Maerad needs to learn to love and not seek to dominate love. She needs to learn how to love rightly.
2) I gather from some spoilers that Maerad sees Cadvan as a father figure, friend and teacher. You don't exactly fall in love with a father figure.
3) Age difference. Shouldn't matter, but here it somewhat does as Maerad sits at Cadvan's feet and he doesn't entirely view her as his equal, so to speak.
4) Has Cadvan actually got over Ceredin? He really ought to eventually, but if he hasn't it would serve to bar a relationship with Maerad.
5) There's a high chance Cadvan might die at the end. Don't know why, but eh, that's intuition speaking. Really rather he didn't, though.

Why they might:

Not going to write a list, actually. But if they learn their life lessons, and know their own selves and characters through and through (Maerad mostly, Cadvan a bit?), then I think they would have a relationship. You don't go through so much together without developing a kind of trust you can never share with anyone else. And again, intuition speaking about what's meant to be for them, if they learned all that and Cadvan revived, I think they would fit together and care for each other more than either of them would admit. It just seems right that they are together. It would be sad if they didn't learn their life lessons though, not because I want them to be together, but because it would just be sad.
