well so long as you don't take several years i am sure we can forgive you and if you do start taking too long we can always employ gemini's kidnapping plan and make you write it quicker (harharharhar :D)

Wow, I've just read the sample chapters for the Crow, they're really good!!! I have to admit that at first I was sceptic about focussing on Hem and Saliman (great characters, but not my faves), but I've changed my mind- Saliman is quite cool. Plus, you've gotta have someone to keep the bed warm whilst sexy Cadvan's away. ;)
So Alison, there's something I'm not quite sure about; will Maerad and Cadvan not feature at all in Book 3?

I don't think they will, somewhere Alison said that Crow ends the same day Riddle does, on mid-winters day or something... so unless Maerad and Cadvan know how to travel hundreds of Km's a single day i don't think they will. Then again, Hem and Saliman may be closer to Pellinor at the end of Crow, then we know or have guessed... so i suppose anything is possible, any thoughts on this Alison?

OMG, the Pope's dead...

No, Maerad and Cadvan are off-stage for this volume, though I've tried to make sure that they're not forgotten during the book: a lot depends on Hem and Saliman. I've been very aware, since so many people are so fond of Maerad, that this is a big and possibly risky shift to make. So Mrs Cadvan's comments are very encouraging! I enjoyed writing Hem a lot; but I do get fond of my characters. And Saliman is, I agree, rather delicious; not so fraught as Cadvan, and probably much better company! :p

I do like it when you get others characters perspectives on Maerad and Cadvan and even any characters when i'm reading a book. It's so sweet about how much Hem loves and cares for Maerad, and the way he looks up to her and everything (Oh warm fuzzy moment :p :D ). Hem's description of Cadvan was interesting, i hadn't seen him so stern as Hem thought him...

My publisher was slightly sceptical - until she read the manuscript. And for the same reasons - I've just spent 1000 pages with these two characters and suddenly, hey what? I'm off down south, running around with these two other characters from Book 1... :) I've been aware that it's a big ask. So your comments are all very encouraging, to say the least. Thanks again, guys! I just hope the rest of the book lives up to your expectations.

I wish it wasn't such a long wait. At first they said November 2006 - but I said that was waaay too long. So it could be worse...

And yes, the war happens now so indeed, there are battles. As you know, the armies of Imank are marching on Turbansk.... (pause for dramatic chords) Hopefully the battles are credible - I had to work out battle tactics, so I read some histories - Thucydides, and something on the Battle of Stalingrad, and others, which was fascinating.
