This topic is unavoidable of course, any ideas?

Ooo, glad someone brought this up, but that means I'll have to put my cunning cap on (which will be hard, seeing as how I was not possessed of any cunning in the first instance).
Well, for starters, i think Maerad and Cadvan will get it on...although I already said that, didn't I? Ah well. :o
Hmm, cant think of anything else at the mo; guess I'll have to go and read the first two. Again.

Hi all

Sorry I haven't been around - sudden financial emergencies and having to catch up on everything that was left hanging when I was writing The Crow caught up with me. But I'm back now, and hopefully with a bit more free time - though often to say so is foolishly optimistic with me. (Call me Ms Overcommitted...

My lips are sealed, of course... But I'm intrigued to know what people think might happen. And the question I most commonly get asked is what will happen between Cadvan and Maerad. Some people write absolute begging that they will get together. The fact is that I have no idea whether they will or not...so your guess is as good as mine on that one!

Hmmmm... I guess I shouldn't read this until I finish the book. As far as I know Cadvan's been dead for a whole chapter now...

...but I knew you were tricking so it didn't really spoil anything! I'm one of those boring people who get the whole plot worked out halfway thru the book/movie.

I've just started a reread too. I'm actualy looking for clues in the plot this time (But then again that's a style used by J.K. Rowling that i'm used to and i'm just getting mixed up), (Maerad and Cadvan have just gone to the opening feast of the meet at Innail). OF COURSE, those two have to start SOMETHING, (example- that beautiful moment in Rachida when Cadvan brushed the hair off Maerad's face and in Riddle (you poor poor English readers) on the boat, away from Thorold, that conversation between Maerad and Cadvan on pg 126 .... hmmm interesting). Oh by the way, best moment in Riddle (cept for the end of course) , "A rabbit?"... "It was the first thing i thought of!" lol.

P.S. You pronounce Cadvan "Card-varn", right?

Oo yeah the one on the boat where Cadvan is implying that he thinks she is a bit of alright lol. Plus, it does say somewhere in book 2 that Maerad 'had loved Cadvan'.
And to Alison, how can you not know what will happen between them!? I'm all worried now! Noooo!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the prononciation- I pronounce it Cad- as in Cad, and -van, as in van, in a very english accent.

Well.. it makes sense :D . I know, a VERY interesting moment between the two of them, and she does say they loved each other on page 212, but then again, it could mean a platonic love, damn it, it HAS to happen!

MY GOD!! this is quickly turning into a full on Ship for Maerad and Cadvan, we should introduce some new theme's (or Discourses, i HATE the new sylabus) like..... who do you think will die or how will Maerad defeat/ kill/ overthrow (?) Sharma aka The Nameless One?

Well...
Arkan does tell her something like the treesong was made with love, and has to be sung with love (or maybe i imagined it).
Plus there's the very first riddle, the; 'First is the singer, hidden from sunlight/ Second the seeker, somethinged by shadows... you get the general gist. So if that refers to Maerad and Cadvan, and that riddle in turn relates to the Treesong itself, then that would indicate some sort of true love between them, wouldn't it?? And the Treesong must be related to defeating Sharma. See, haha, I managed to link the lovey stuff to the evil stuff. Go me!

(I'm, sorry, it's just I'm totally rooting for the Maerad-Cadvan thing. My life would be over if it didn't happen. Yes, I'm that pathetic. *hangs head*)

Aaargh - sorry Rocket. I might try and put a spoiler warning on the thread title, if I can work out the thread technology.

And to Alison, how can you not know what will happen between them!? I'm all worried now! Noooo!

My characters (and I'm sure this is true of most writers) get very bossy and don't always do what I tell them. Maerad is strangely virginal, partly I guess her paranoia about men. And I really don't know how that will work out. (Also, as someone pointed out, Cadvan is a lot older - but in that Bardish way). I have a couple of ideas, but I won't know anything for sure until I actually write it. It's true though, you perspicacious readers, that these books are centrally about love. (Yes, Arkan does say the Treesong must be sung with love). Lots of different kinds of love, not just romantic love. It's certainly true that Maerad and Cadvan love each other, but how they love each other has to work itself out. They're both, I think, quite difficult and reticent people.

As for the Treesong - well, more is revealed in Book 3... :D
