Andre Norton died today, at the age of 93. Found this out at Aintitcoolsnews.
"Ms. Norton requested before her death that she not be given a funeral service, but asked instead to be cremated along with copies of her very first novel, "The Prince Commands," published in 1934 and set in a mythical European kingdom, and telling the tale of a young man who returns from exile to stop a communistic takeover of his country, and her last novel "Three Hands of Scorpio," set to be released this April..."

I've yet to read any of her work. I like that she wanted to be cremated with a copy of both her first and last books in lieu of a funeral service.

That's really too bad, as I've been reading her since a very early age. I have some of her original works from the fifties. She has probably influenced hundreds of writers and entertained thousands of people.

That is really terrible news. I just started reading her works a little over a year ago, but since then she has become one of my favorite authors. I know she had a very long career that influenced many authors, and from what I can tell she helped open the doors for women writers in the genre. She was truly an icon of the genre and will be greatly missed.

This is indeed sad news. I grew up reading her novels starting back in 1959 when I was 8 years old. My favorite novels are "Storm Over Warlock" , "The Beast Master" , "The Zero Stone and "The Stars Are Ours!".

Indeed, this is a big loss to fantasy and science fiction. She had some awesome YA books and it's just too bad there won't be any more. I really used to enjoy reading her stuff and she was well known for the longest time.

I have read her work for many years and am saddened by this news. This is a great loss to all who enjoy Science Fiction/Fantasy. She will be missed.
