  1. New Blog

I just want to let everyone know that I have moved my blog to The new address is Robert Garbin's Blog.
  2. Weak Political Sign

I came across a sign that an obvious republican small business owner put up at their business. It said "Socialism is equal sharing of Misery." I found this extremely funny because of how poorly thought out it was given that most of these same republican's define themselves as morally upstanding Christians. Is not sharing the burdens of the downtrodden what Christ asks of us. Talk about moral conflicts.
  3. Stewart 1:16

    by , February 29th, 2012 at 11:06 PM (Rob Garbin's Blog)
I was thinking of having under eye glare protectors made with Stewart 1:16 on them like some football players I know. Of course, this is not a passage from the New Testament like the football players use, but is a reference to an episode of the Daily Show with John Stewart on 1/16/12. The part of the show I am concerned with describes working conditions for Chinese laborers at a high tech plant like the many that supply us with our ceaseless demand for electronic junk. This is just another aspect ...

  4. Heavy Heart

    by , January 5th, 2012 at 11:32 PM (Rob Garbin's Blog)
I need your help my friends. I just spent two hours watching the documentary "Jonestown Paradise Lost" and it is wrenching my heart out. I feel like the, I believe, Harlion Allison story "I Have no Mouth and Must Scream". I need some good cheer to help blot out the senseless blindness that so plagues members of our society. People who rail at the ugliness of mankind as they kill their own children. Poor, poor misunderstood us, we have to kill you because you question our ...

  5. Doubt Revisited

    by , November 15th, 2011 at 09:50 PM (Rob Garbin's Blog)
Many posts ago, I wrote about a story I had in a flash fiction contest here called "The Parable of Doubt". I expressed my reasons for writing the story as being the need for everyone to question the nature of the truths we hold in order to protect against abuse from evil people. Since that time, I have removed the story in hopes of creating a better, more subtle version. Because of the continuing collapse of the veil of illusion that our society has blinded itself with, I have decided ...

  6. Questions the 99% should demand answers for

    by , November 14th, 2011 at 09:24 PM (Rob Garbin's Blog)
    1. Given the almost 4 years since Wall Street's meltdown, how far have the banks gotten in the unraveling of the derivatives and the mortgages they were based on?

    2. Given the current profitable conditions of the Wall Street Banks, how much attention is being given to cleaning up the derivatives mess and how much effort is being made to ease the burden on the original mortgage borrowers.

    3. If I am correct, most or all of the tarp money has been repaid by the banks. ...

  7. Not all of us

    by , November 2nd, 2011 at 03:27 AM (Rob Garbin's Blog)
This one goes out to the rich. I know that not all of you subscribe to the extreme doctrines of the 1%, but I don't see you taking much of a stand against the tide, which may someday swamp you as well.

Just like Americans feel Muslims need to stand up to the radical forces within their society, so do the rich need to stand up against the unbridled greed of their brethern. For those that understand that the current system is designed for short term profits at the cost of the long ...
  8. Thoughts I did not think much about at the time: Part II

    by , September 11th, 2011 at 08:01 PM (Rob Garbin's Blog)
The second "aha" moment happened for me during our second and final invasion of Iraq. Leading up to the war and eventual ground invasion, we were told about the danger Saddam's regime posed to the saftey of America. We were told that Iraq had large hidden stockpiles of chemical weapons and was actively seeking out nuclear weapons, statements that might have been true at one time.

However, by the second or third day of the invasion, it became clear to me that the compelling ...

  9. Code Red Terror Alert

    by , March 11th, 2011 at 07:33 AM (Rob Garbin's Blog)
Our democratic way of life is under attack like never before by home grown terrorists, our elected officials and their ultra-rich backers. If you don't beleive me then take a closer look at the legislation they are enacting in the Name of Helping the Worker. These select few are going to cause more pain and whoa for the middle class than any outside agency could.

They are envisioning an America where jobs are plentiful. However, they don't tell you that then are going to be jobs ...
  10. Wisconsin

Well, for all those that decided not to vote in the last election, guess what, it really did matter. Voting is not just a once and a while thing. Yeah, things had not turned around as much as you thought they should have so you did not vote to allow the democrats more time. How is that working out for you?

I said it before and I'll say it again, if you thought that we could just snap our fingers and the results of our decade long binge would disappear then you are naive. My father ...

  12. Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

    by , February 22nd, 2011 at 10:19 PM (Rob Garbin's Blog)
I have been hearing, as most of the country has, that the new Republican congress will be the voice of reason in a Democratic government gone wild. They plan to make the hard decisions that will lead our country out of the wilderness of massive debt we now find ourselves. The initial reporting that I have followed mentions a Congress proposed budget that deeply slashes social programs, while maintaining a military engine program that even the Secretary of Defense has deemed unnecessary.

Ever since someone directed me to as a place to catalog my collection I have been a participant in their earlybird program. It is a program that gives you a chance to win free review copies of books that are coming out. I have been trying for some time without much success.

Today, that changes. I finally won a book from the Sept. 10 batch. To top it off, the book is "Against All Things Ending", the third book in the Final Chronicals of Thomas Covenant ...
  14. Move

I just completed a grueling two week move. I had about 80 percent moved on my own but the last 20 percent was the big stuff. Thank God my family was there to help. I still have a long road pulling the house I moved into together because it was my father's, who is living elsewhere, and my Niece and her three kids where there for about two years prior.

I my post some pics as I pull the place together.
  15. Get the Picture
