They were about to start in the direction of the wall when Sam grabbed Derek by the arm and said, “Do you hear something?”
Derek listened for a moment and replied, “No…what did you hear?”
“I dunno sounded like something howling…maybe my imagination…let’s go.”
Unconsciously the boys walked a little faster in the direction of the wall.
The wall was now in sight by the naked eye but unfortunately this time both boys heard howling and it sounded like more that one source.
Sam and Derek looked at each other with unease and Derek raised the binoculars to look back in the direction they had come from with the hope of seeing nothing. His heart sank as he spied a pack of animals that where obviously following their trail.
They were wolf like in appearance at least based on the wolves Derek had seen at the zoo, but they were easily one and one half times bigger, with shaggier hair, jet black in color and more hunched at the shoulder. They also had a more pronounced snout and he could see their tongues loll out of their months as they came forward at an easy trot.
Derek wordlessly passed the binoculars to Sam but his expression spoke volumes. Sam wasting no time grabbed the glasses and quickly scanned the horizon.
“Let’s get to the wall Sam!”
