Rejection

Rate this Entry
I have been submitting a number of short stories over the past months.

Sold two, subject to contract, of the seven I have been peddling.

Two of the remaining five have just been rejected. Nice, personalised ones, but still rejected. The remaining three are my strongest stories. All have made it through to the final cut with various mags and anthologies, previously, before they were given the heave ho!

I suspect the current venues they are submitted too will pass as well. Though I have, I hope targeted a more suitable market for each one. All have horror elements, strange. Does that mean I am slowly becoming a horror writer??

Confused me is....

Anyway, after these come back home with their tail between their legs I won't be submitting them for a while. I need to keep my mind on my current work, which is slowly driving me nuts. I never have had a more researched and outlined piece at the beginning before, and I thought that would make the writing easier. WRONG!!

Sometimes knowing too much can be a hindrance, my current WIP I know inside and out to the point where, when I open the ms, I can't believe I'm not much further along. Writing it tends to drag badly then because I feel like I'm constantly retreading old ground.

Me too, but I suddenly had a thought about my villian, and my story is going to go "off piste". I intend to write this chunk tomorrow. Also need to alter the tone of the first 5,000 words. Will do that later, sadly I have my housework to finish first. How sad is that!

My mum has a mug bought for her by a friend that says 'Housework whenever, Gardening Forever!' - you should change the gardening to writing
