Just heard of the death of James Arness, actor in TV Western series Gunsmoke, but to genre fans, 'The Thing' in the classic film 'The Thing from Another World'.
One of my classic faves.
The original The Thing was so much better than the re-make. That first director understood that imagination is the most important aspect of horror and spent most of the movie suggesting what was going to happen in place of making it as gory as possible. That movie scared the hell out of me. Years later, it played on late-night television and scared the hell out of a younger brother and sister who did not make it past the ice melting under the blanket.
