Cry havoc, and unlease the edit according to agent!!!

God help me!!! I am going to vanish for a while. I need to work on this massive edit. The core of the story will remain, but massive changes will take place, and the relationships between some of the characters will change a lot. All this is not worrying me, I can do it, John believes I can do it and is excited as the result will be something we can hit the big boys with.

The biggest problem is going to be limiting my POV characters. I am hoping for only 5, whould prefer four, but that might prove hard.

Work begins to morrow. I am too shattered by reading John's notes and our telephone conversation to type logically tonight.

    No, it is another edit of a finished novel that has been in my agent's hands a while. We have gone over things point by point!

    Hobrook, believe it or not, I would LOVE to be in your position. Editing a new novel for PUBLICATION?!

    Come on, girl, you've got to be just about crowing right now, no?

    You know, I can't disagree with tmso's point! Make sure you take time to enjoy the process... as much as you can.

    It's not an edit for publication,( I wish it was) it is an edit to get the manuscript up to snuff to put under the noses of publishers!

    I am re-writing huge chunks, changing POVs, narrowing the story, even changing some of the characters relationships with each other. I am also introducing a character in the first chapter,that does not appear until the second half of the original. By doing so it plugs a big hole in the plot line that the edits will create.

    Talk about killing your darling. I am hanging, drawing and quartering it.

    But it is fun, Hobbit Just hope it does the trick...

    One thing I know I am not going to be able to do, it reduce the number of POV characters to less than 4 or 5. In the original it was nine. The plot will not jell with less.

    Edit, schmedit! If you must change POVs, it sounds like he's asked for a re-write of major portions of the story.
    Pour yourself some Sherry and get to it, ma'am. Or pour yourself some Sherry and take a break.

    HE, not the story exactly, just limit the number of POV's which means certain scenes will have to be altered to the POV of another character. Bit like moving from one chair to another during a conversation lol...

    It's the alterations at the beginning that have tied me in knots at present. lol...

    Just wish I didn't have to work for a living, then this edit would be easy. As it is it is going to take me a few months!
