The Far East is nearer than we think....

In the northwestern suburb of Atlanta where we are staying, it seems like everyone is either Korean, Japanese, Chinese, or Vietnamese. Almost every business sign has at least one type of oriental characters along with the English.
This area also seems to be a technological center. There is even a Peachtree Technology Boulevard.
In downtown Atlanta, where our conert venues are, there are lots of students from surrounding universities, including Georgia Tech, and many of them are oriental.
I wonder if "Main Street America" realizes that our country belongs to the Far East? I know we are heavily in debt to China, and I think our trade balance with them is a one-way flow.......their products flowing our way, not the other way around so much.
I am bringing some Chinese and Korean newspapers home for my students to see. I can't wait to hear their reaction.
It's a small, small world.
