There must be an easier way

Rate this Entry
I've applied for a new job, my current one has a low ceiling and I've hit it. I have an interview tomorrow. I was told there was an application form sent to me and it should be filled in and brought to the interview (I know, what the hell right). It came this morning.

In the last 24 hours I have consumed so much information about the company and interviews in general my head hurts a lot. Now the application form is standard stuff but it has an 'Additional Information' section google tells me relates to hobbies and such that are applicable to the job. I don't have any that apply and yet will look, to my mind, dumb if the section is left blank. Ho Hum.

This isn't a difficult or overly important job yet the application process seems more suited to a fighter pilot or prime minister. Which has lead me to ask, surely there has to be an easier way than this labyrinth of buzz words and pointless sections to apply for a job. It's rather disheartening I have to say.

Not sure what kind of job you're applying for, but is there no way you can tie in your review/moderating/dealing with publishers aspect of this site into the additional info?

Thanks Erf, I don't think so (it's a tech job as a mobile solutions support analyst) but I'm going to have to try. Leaving the section blank doesn't seem to be an option even if it's the 'truth' and seeing as I gave up team sports a few years ago, I'm out of luck on any other hobbies/skills.

How about the fact of interaction with a diverse crowd and editorial help, etc.

That's another good thought, thank you. I'm worried what I put down will seem a bit tenuous ... and yet compared to a big blank space that's not so bad

There is - win the lotto.

Remember, if the UK is anything like the US at the moment, they are getting tons of applicants. Letting them know you write gives you "breath" and gives them a chance to distinguish you from all the others. It's tricky, but the reviewer might think it's cool. Don't be too afraid to show some personality.
