Canadian Authors?
I was wondering if there are any Canadian authors I should check out? As my other half will be in Canada in April for a few weeks, it's a great opportunity for me to stock up on some new names!
Kushiel's Chosen is already on the list (don't know if Carey is Canadian, but chapters have it as available there in April). I've checked out chapters.ca and there are a lot of unfamiliar names, but they don't give a star rating or reader reviews (that I can see). So, any recommendations? http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Shadowen (edited January 29, 2002).] |
Sean Russell
Is Charles de Lint Canadian? I also thought Steven Erikson was a Canadian. |
The only two that I can think of off the top of my head are Guy Gavriel Kay and Chris Pierson. While de Lint isn't from Canada, but he did live there for a period of time, unlike Erikson, who was born in Canada and raised in Winnipeg.

Steve Erikson is also a Canadian. Spent some time in the UK getting himself published then moved back a while ago to write full time.

Holy S!! I agree with Qin! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif
Give Kay a try, he is one of the best writers, of any nationality, in the fantasy genre today. I though Charles de Lint was Canadian. Either way, he is a good author (well at least the one I read by him) Sean Russell is excellent as well |
Haven't read her works myself or if it fits this category but I believe Margaret Atwood is Canadian too.
|
Yes, Margaret Atwood is Canadian. Though she doesn't fit firmly into the genre, The Handmaid's Tale is a brillian Orwell-esque dystopian alternate history.

I've read Russell, Kay and Erikson already as they're published over here. I was thinking more of authors who were only published in Canada (I know there are authors published only in the US or UK, and thought the same might apply for Canada)?
Thanks for the recommendations anyway guys - a few names there I hadn't hear of! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif |
Tanya Huff is Canadian. Her urban fantasies are set there.
Susan |
I believe that Dave Duncan is Canadian as well. His 'The King's Blades' series seemed pretty good to me.
|
Timothy Findley is a Canadian author, although not suitable to my taste personaly, my english professer worships him.

And then there's always that TV show about that Mountie and his wolfhound http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
