Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews

I've been unsure about this spin-offs, but seems like there's a lot of positive energy from what I've seen in the last few months. Will check these samples later.

I enjoyed Andrea's book as I got to read the first draft and the best part about the book is how the storyline explores Andrea's past and in tandem with the Magic Gifts novella, the storyline takes an interesting turn. The downside is that *possibly* Andrea's voice shares some characteristics with Kate and so maybe the author's might tweak it a bit in the final draft.

Excellent storyline though and again a different mythology is explored and the ramifications of the climax should be interesting to see in Kate 6.

I think it gives them the opportunity to build up characters without flooding the novels, plus it gives them space to build plot threads that can reach back and impact the main series.

I've only read their first book, so I'm not sure how these offshoots will really work, but the potential for good is there.

I've read the first two Kate Daniels books, and I liked them. The world is a bit empty with not much of a feeling of the locations really being alive, but at the same time it almost has an SF sensibility. The mechanics of the world makes sense to me, which is an advantage in any UF setting.

I got no problem with the idea of spin-offs, I just wasn't that interested in this particular spin-off idea. But we'll see, chances are I think it's awesome.

Did you recently read the first book, or was it a while back?

I'd seen all the comments surrounding it, so I went in prepared. I didn't have a problem with it, just got sidetracked by other books. Planning on reading the others fairly soon.

I remain unrabid about these books. I don't know quite what it is about them....maybe too much of a romance vibe, maybe too much throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks, I dunno....they're entertaining enough, and they certainly did improve after the first one or two, but they're still not at the top of my list of UF faves. But to each their own...

Speaking of UF faves, there's a new Cal Leandros book coming out in March....ooooo baby, come to Mama........ ;)
