Science fiction and fantasy write Anne McCaffrey died of a stroke yesterday at the age of 85. She was the first woman to win a Hugo and Nebula award and the first woman to make it to the New York Bestsellers List with a science fiction novel (The White Dragon). She'll be missed!

The Crystal Singer is the only book of hers I recall reading but the old guard will take a long time to fade away.
