Matthew Stover - a bit of a cult favourite around here. His protagonist in Heroes Die and Blade of Tyshalle (I haven't read any of his Star Wars work), Caine, is one of the more memorable characters going around. I've still yet to see anyone else write action scenes as entertaining.
Heroes Die was discussed in the book club, and he has an author forum on these boards.
Tim Lebbon - mainly a horror writer, he had a crack at fantasy last year with Dusk. It missed the mark with me. This was also discussed in the
book club, and Tim was nice enough to drop in.
Ellen Kushner - another one that doesn't work for me.
Swordspoint was discussed in the bookclub.
Paul Park - I believe got nominated for a WFA last year for Princess of Roumania - on my to-read list.
