I got it today at approximately five o'clock. I had to give a guitar lesson which took quite a lot of time but I'm 100 pages in and I like it...
Warlord and Lust bunny... *swoon*
One complaint though. It's quite short wouldn't you say?

My copy from Amazon hasn't arrived yet. Lucky you - June 2nd's the release date!
336 pages too short? There's a lot that can happen to Parrish in 336 pages... very nice cover too.

After forcing myself to put it down at about midnight I can safely say it is too short. I can also say I amaze myself with my own incompetance. I left it at home when I left for work this morning...

And are you going to tell everyone who the lovely person is that spotted the book in Waterstones (in the big piles on the table, with both the others, btw, Marianne....congrats!) ............and snatched it up and brought it home for you????
(Pausing only to pay for it, of course)
Errrrrr... wasn't planning on it.![]()
Hi Guys,
just popped in and saw your posts!
Aaah Jac, I'm sorry it's too short! Better tell me how, in what way so I can
work on that next time. One of the difficulites I have with Parrish is that when she's on a roll doing things I kinda find it hard to stop and sniff the roses, get other character stuff in, develop all the things I should.
It's like one of those lifts with the glass door. Things whizz by and I can't quite get a good enough glimpse of them and stay on the ride!
Please feel free to post any criticisms so I can get a handle on weaknesses.
All please tell scenes that do work. Nice to know which those are as well.
Sammie thank you for spotting it!
Jac, I did a reading on Tuesday night at a function using the scene at the beginning where the shape changers mug her in her room, complete with Teece interlude. Got everyones eyes popping
Hi Hobbit!

Oh and thanks for paying for it too Sammie!Originally Posted by Sammie

Oh how could you...
Spoiler:
What about Loyl?
What about Glorious?
What about Merv?
What about Kat?
What about Bras?
What about Snout?
And more to the point what about Parrish?????
You can't stop there! Now what am I going to do?
On a slightly more serious note I really enjoyed it. I found it the most enjoyable of the three, the hardest to put down. It was only too short in that it was over too quickly.
If I have any complaints then it was that Parrish didn't seem overly bothered when she found out the identitiy of her mystery saviour. It could be the fact that I was reading it in the middle of the night but I would have expected some more emotions from someone supercharged with the Eskaalim (?sp). Even so I loved it.
You read that section? Lol! My god you're brave. Thinking about it there was an awful lot more sex in this one. Was that because you felt more able to write the book you wanted to write or a concious decision because of the ongoing story?
As to the big piles of books I reckon they only put them out on display because it might stop me rearranging their shelves every time I walk past! Incidentally, it's probably worth mentioning that S is talking about the Waterstones at Charring Cross (Trafalgar Square) which gets a HUGE amount of passing trade...
So, space opera eh? When can we expect the first?

SPOILER ALERT********************
don't read if you want don't want clues
Hi Jac,
hmmm. yes more sex because I wanted that to be the way the Eskaalim got her. She was battling so hard to suppress the violence that it snuck up through pleasure.
I have plans for two more Parrish books which will encompass the BIG war. I don't know that the emphasis on sex would necessarily stay in them. However, for this one it had to be her undoing.
Point taken on the revelation. Again I think a symptom of her already set down a course of action and having her focus (my focus) ahead.
sort of space opera. not quite sure how to categorise it. Out mid next year I think.
keep your fingers crossed on some film nibbles I've been having. If there was one thing you wouldn't want changed by film adaptation, what would it be?
M
oh and thanks a HEAP for the positive vibe!
I don't want anyone smaller than Sandra Bullock (we were born on the same day you know) to play Parrish.
Hey... I know I'm useless... I've been reading Less Than Human and Holy Cow (I'm an old backpacker - we don't die... we just start to smell funny) and Alison Croggon and some new writers but I've finally got a copy of CODE NOIR! YAAAY!
(I know, late pathetic, but I think Jacquin is a big old show off)
Hmmm interesting question... I really can't pick one thing form the series that is more important to me than the rest. I like the world, I like Parrish as a lead character, I like her contadictions. I like almost all of the supporting characters. To be honest the only person I didn't grow particularly attached to was Loyl. I did however like the way her feelings for him refvlected Teece's for her. As a bloke I'm sure I should say Glori's first lesson should stay though... I really hope it comes off. I think it would translate very well onto the big screen. Kinda Bladerunner meets Mad Max.Originally Posted by MDP

Tis v cool actually. Like Jac says, this is the Waterstones (BIG bookstore chain) on the corner of Trafalger Square, right next to the station, so it is busy busy busy. The f/sf section is an big alcove, three sides bookcases, with a big table in the middle with piles of books by the authors they think we ought to be looking at. And all three of your books were there, in neat piles side by side (Don't the covers compliment each other gorgeously!) along the edge of the table where they couldn't be missed. (Even by a shameless hussie who was only in there trying to find an entirely different book, with no thought of your own in her head at allOriginally Posted by MDP

Even better, perhaps, I also went up to the Waterstones in Piccadilly (Charing Cross didn't have my book. Nor did Piccadilly, actually...I found it in an independant bookstore in the end, but that's another story) which is apparently the biggest bookstore in London, and a strong competitor for the biggest in the UK, and 'Code Noir' etc, although not on the table there were turned face out on the shelves. Which they don't do with much in there, cos of needing to fit all-the-books in!
Guess what I'm saying is that our biggest (i think) bookstore chain appears to be promoting your books.
Hows that for 'more information'![]()
Hi Sammie,
whata vivid picture you painted. It gives me a kick. Over here I'm lucky if I find them in a bookshop and 'never' face out.
You guys are too cool. Thanks.
Jac,
if you have any more thoughts on the film thing feed them back to me. I must tell Chirugal (mod at Parrish's Patch) you've read it. She finished it last night and I think she enjoyed it to.
MDP
ps you should both pop in at PP (it's down for a couple of days being upgraded) from time to time. I have guest authors every month or so which are v interesting. Also Chirugal is putting together a regular newsletter for me you can subscribe via my website and it will have book giveaways.
