Ilario: The Lion's Eye by Mary Gentle (UK)

In addition, books that are not yet firmly set but which have good to excellent chances of being out in the second half of 2006 are:

    Shadowplay by Tad Williams;
    A new Guy Gavriel Kay novel, apparantly the Penguin Canada publisher has hinted that they have the book scheduled for Fall 2006 but it all depends on when the manuscript comes in;
Martin's "Dance with Dragons". No matter what others say, if we are going by the author's own words than we can still expect Dance to be released by the end of 2006. Even this week he said he hopes and expects to do book signings of ADWD this time next year. He still has half the book to write though.

Books from the above list that I'd love more info about (other than what is already on Amazon) :

    Crystal Rain
    Giants of the Frost
    Heir of Autumn
    Shadow in Summer
    The Wizard Lord
    The Stormcaller
    The Amber Wizard
    The Eye of Heaven
    The Tower of Shadows
    The Mirror Prince
    Mistborn: The Final Empire
    Fledging of Az Gabrielson
    Winterbirth

Some very cool looking stuff in that list, I have to say.

Are the ones i'm looking forward to from that list, either because i know i like the writer, or because i've been waiting for the trilogy the be finished before i start (so just hoping they're good).

Lots of cliched titles, doesn't mean the books will be, but they are not catching my interest. Lots of them sound like other books too, hopefully they aren't all cases of people thinking they can write fantasy all because they are fans (a la Eragon)

10 featuring royalty / nobility: The Mirror Prince, The Blood Knight, Throne of Jade, Oracle's Queen, His Majesty's Dragon, The Wizard Lord, The Queen in Winter, Crown of Stars, The King's Own, The Skewed Throne.

So that will be fun, as there aren't enough unrealistically portrayed royal families in fantasy

    2006?

In 2006 I'm pretty sure I'll still be working on the pile from 1983.

Oh, well. Maybe in 2029 ...

A new Guy Gavriel Kay novel,
    great

I still have to wonder about the crack heads in US publishing that take so long to print up UK released books.

I mean, Bonehunters is being released in the UK and in the US we just finally got Memories of Ice. It pisses me off to have to buy the UK version.

Elemental: New Stories of Science Fiction and Fantast

Hey Mith - thanks for listing Elemental on your massive list of new releases. It's very nice to see word spreading slowly.

I figured I'd give a little extra info as Amazon is very sketchy:

All proceeds from this book go to Save The Children's Tsunami Relief effort, and authors include:

    Arthur C. Clarke
Kevin J Anderson & Brian Herbert
    Lynn Flewelling
    Martha Wells
    Jaqueline Carey
    Sean Williams
    Stel Pavlou
    Brian Aldiss
    Larry Niven
    Joe Haldeman
    David Drake
    William C. Dietz
    David Gerrold
    Tim Lebbon
    Nina kiriki Hoffman
    Sherrilyn Kenyon
    Eric Nylund
    Adam Roberts
    Janny Wurtz
    Sharon Shinn
    Michael Marshall Smith
    Syne Mitchell
    Esther Friesner

And I have to admit that I am very proud to have been part of putting this together with Tor. I really hope people will pick this one up - right now Amazon have an amazing 35% off the hardcover making it only 3 bucks more than the tradepaper back...

I've read it, and in all honesty I think it is an amazing anthology and expect it to get a lot of attention over the next 12 months.

I thought there was an anthology I was really looking forward to. I can't seem to find it on amazon, Steve. VERY IMPRESSIVE list there, I must say again. Are your authored books going to be available in the States?

Funky, here's hoping your books will be on US Shelves soon!

A quick note underscoring that you can't always assume you know a book by its title:

Crown of Stars in the title does not refer to a material crown, but rather a variety of items metaphoically identified as a crown (e.g., a series of stone rings that allow travel between places and worlds)

That said, Eliott has established a magic-based world in the millieu of a historic european land, Wendar, which today is Poland/Eastern Germany. Much of her geography, noble titles, and character names come straight from that region during a particular time period.

    hmmmmmm.
