Casting for aSoIaF mini-series/movie?
I'm not sure if there's a thread for this yet, but it's been mentioned here and there.
Martin himself recently said that he doesn't think his books could ever be turned into movies. But he does think could possibly work as a mini series, with a full season for each book! How awesome would that be?
Anyway, even though its sort of silly naming all these big actors, who would you love to see play your favorite characters? Here's some ideas from a previous post of mine:
Eddard Stark - Liam Neeson? Or someone else. Russel Crowe?
Robb Stark - Toby Mcguire? (my friend's suggestion)
Jon Snow - Keanu Reeves? just kidding! Orlando Bloom? Nah! Hmmm...
Theon Greyjoy - Joaquim Phoenix, or Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (the guy who played Steerpike in BBC's Gormenghast series)
Balon Greyjoy - Christopher Lee
Stannis Baratheon - Christopher Lee or Patrick Stewart
Robert Baratheon - Brendan Gleeson or Brian Cox
We would also need to find a role for Sean Bean, and possibly Ian McKellen.

Seriously im really going for Oldman as Littlefinger here. Going by Amok, he's near perfect ...
Though if im honest i'd like to see a discreet lack of major names, I feel they wouldn't really be that committed to making it work. All you need to do is get a really good director, a load of promising upcoming stars, who can act well and more importantly look like the characters!
Im thinking Alien circumstances here, bunch of unknowns coupled with a bloody good director, and you've got something good.
Though I can absolutelty see a mini series working.
Ackk I can see the promotion now, the words 'Winter is Coming' flashing up randomly onto screens!

Some of my choices depend on time not being a concern (because some people should be older and some younger) and I might misspell some names. If anybody doesn't recognize any of the names mentioned, go to:
www.imdb.com
{Edit: I will finish putting links to imdb [or another picture source] sometime today--hopefully, my eyes are wigging out right now}
{Edit: Oh, I had my first migraine today at work. I swear I couldn't even read the text on the screen I was seeing so many white sparkly floaters or whatever they are called.}
Ned Stark: Viggo Mortensen
Catelyn: Julia Ormond or Jeanne Tripplehorn
Jon: Edward Furlong
Robb: Brad Renfro
Bran: Joseph Mazzello
Tywin Lannister: Patrick Stewart
Jaime Lannister: Blonde Tom Cruise from Interview with the Vampire
Cersei Lannister: Naomi Watts
Joffrey Bratheon: Tom Felton
Stannis Baratheon: Billy Bob Thornton (he's always so thin and drawn)
Mellesandra: Catherin Zeta Jones
Davos Seaworth or Benjen Stark (more DS): Sean Bean
Varys: Oliver Platt
Syrio Foyel: Ben Kingsley
Jaquen H'agar: Jonny Depp
Euron: Gary Oldman
Sir Rodrik: Pete Postlethwaite AKA Kobayashi
Sir Dontos: Robert Downey Jr. (In this picture he's on the right.)
I'd definately wan't Joaquin Phoenix in there somewhere. Maybe Garlan Tyrell. Yeah! I could dream cast forever but for now... I have to go to bed but will have to come back and post some more later.
Am back:
Gregor Clegane:Michael Wincott
Sam Tarly: Charlie Talbert (Angus!)
Dolores Ed: Billy Boyd
Ayra Stark: Any little girl who can also play Jean Louise "Scout" Finch
Dagmar Cleftjaw: James Cosmo (he was in Braveheart)
Lord 'o' Bones: Brendan Gleason
Back to bed I go...Last edited by SpiffySilpion; March 17th, 2006 at 11:30 PM.

Gildor: Ironically, I was going to cite the Amok drawing earlier, as the reason I don't see Oldman as Littlefinger! Although your comparison is actually very striking, I still don't think Oldman is slimy enough. I think Oldman would be better as one of the other characters, but I'm not sure who. He has to be in it though.
As for this:Oh my god.. I WANT TO SEE THIS NOW!!!Ackk I can see the promotion now, the words 'Winter is Coming' flashing up randomly onto screens!
SpiffySilpion: Excellent idea for Sean Bean as Davos! I knew I wanted him in there, and I always think Bean is a better good guy (despite being cast as a bad guy all the time). Davos Seaworth he is! I also like the idea of Viggo as Ned Stark (though I still think Liam Neeson would be cool! Or even Sean Bean again), and I love Brendan Gleeson as the Lord 'o Bones (I can totally hear him saying that name!).
However, you can't have Patrick Stewart for your Tywin, cause he's so perfect as my Stannis!
(Or imagine, with the wonders of technology and make up, if we could have Patrick Stewart as both Tywin and Stannis!)
I also heartily stand by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Theon, but how about Joaquin Phoenix plays Renly?? And how about Brian Cox as Jeor Mormont, the Old Bear. Eh? Eh?Last edited by Evil Agent; March 17th, 2006 at 12:26 AM.

Joaquin Phoenix WOULD make a GREAT Renly!
I like that casting from the earlier post! I however
don't like Patrick Stewart as Tyrion and/or Tywin.
Still cannot grasp a picture in my mind from the
Hollywood elite for that role.
Don't laugh, but I think Daniel Radcliffe would be
great as Robb..Comments?
I also think Naomi Watts as Cersei is a good suggestion but
she does not come across as evil enough for me.
How about Nicole Kidman? She could be a major beotch
in that role!
Anyhow, the who ASOIAF being made into a mini-series
is such a good idea. I truly hope one day it is attempted.
Major laughs for the "Winter is Coming" flashing on the
TV for a preview!!!!

I'm back again.
If they were to make a mini-series about it I think that it would have to be more like an HBO series and not technically a mini series but a regular series until the story ended. Like 3 chapters or so for each episode. HBO wouldn't have to worry about censoring anything like the violence or sex. Personally, after watching Rome, I've come to the conclusion that some producer will watch an episode and say, "No. More sex. More cussing. This is HBO!"
But... but... but... he's my perfect Tywin. However, you can't have Patrick Stewart for your Tywin, cause he's so perfect as my Stannis!
*tear*
Yeah, JOnathan Rys-Meyers would be great!I also heartily stand by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers as Theon
I think she could pull it off. I'd actually like to see her be a beotch. Yeah, Nicloe Kidman could be Cersei. Definately.I also think Naomi Watts as Cersei is a good suggestion but
she does not come across as evil enough for me.
YES! They'd have to make him look taller, and he'd have to lose weight and buff up but yeah, Brian Coxwould be wonderful. And how about as Jeor Mormont, the Old Bear. Eh? Eh?
More dreamcasting:
Olyenna Tyrell: Judi Dench
Roose Bolton: Kevin Spacey
Tom Bombadil: Jonathan Frakes--oooh wait!Last edited by SpiffySilpion; March 17th, 2006 at 12:49 PM.

Wow, there are some comprehensive lists here.
I can't come close to matching that! So I'll just toss out a few hits that come to mind -
Angelina Jolie as Melisandre
Nicole Kidman as Cersei and Tom Cruise as Jaime (I KEED I KEED!). The height difference alone would make it impossible.
I actually second Naomi Watts as Cersei. She would be fantastic. Jaime would be a tough one, because you need someone exceptionally pretty who can also play gritty when it happens. A young Brad Pitt, maybe.
Robert - Brian Bedford
Littlefinger - Edward Norton
Catelyn - Jennifer Connelly
Tywin - Patrick Stewart, without a doubt
Ed Stark - To be honest, I think Denzel Washington would be perfect for this. I know it wouldn't happen, but I think he would be spot on.
Ben Stark - Following from Ed's casting, how about Jamie Foxx (I love being in the Rangers! HOO RAH)

ERIC BANA as NED would be awesome. also, i don't know, but i also see him as DAVOS. some kind of quiet seething.
among big name stars, i only see BRAD PITT doing JAMIE. others either aren't good-looking enough or doesn't have that swagger.
i want BRAN or RICKON to be played by that child actor in Disney's "THE KID" and "CAT IN THE HAT"
JOHNNY DEPP is versatile enough as LITTLEFINGER.
CHRISTIAN BALE must get a part!
what about VARYS played by PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN?Last edited by glaz; March 17th, 2006 at 04:20 PM.

Whaa? LOL Tyrion is a dwarf not a short guy! LOLTyrion: Dustin Hoffman
How about for Tyrion: Peter Dinklage from The Station Agent. Would it be weird of me to say that he'd probably be too attractive to play Tyrion?
*shrugs shoulders*
Dany: How about Natalie Portman? She does bald really well, we know that now since V for Vandetta. She's pretty cool, I bet she could pull it off.

I was idly browsing the internet for some good pictures, and came across some I like
How about this lady for Catelyn, perhaps a bit young, but in complexion and hair she's very beautiful. Perhaps a tad bit exotic, though for another role, one of the sand snakes? lady Merryweather? A one Eva Green ...
Some distinguished actors in Liam Neeson and Jeremy Irons, would well suit the grizzled warrior roles. Neeson as Barristan, Balon Greyjoy, or even Sandor with some good scars?
Irons as Beric, Blackfish, Jorah???Last edited by KatG; November 12th, 2008 at 02:55 PM.
