Talking pellinor in the united states

    ...which is where i live.

when i first recieved [amazon.com :]] 'the naming' [which i will now refer to as 'the gift'] two weeks ago, i had never heard of it. that is a very bad thing, because, as i repeatedly point out to everyone i know, i am the queen of fantasy. [and poetry, for that matter] none of my fantasy friends had ever heard of it either. also very bad.
so i cracked open the book, and didn't stop reading at all. exept to ride [horses]. eventually the book was taken away from me because i was being antisocial, meaning, whenever someone came up to me, i yelled 'go away i am reading'.
since then, i have read 'the gift' 6 times. i am in the middle of a seventh as i... speak? type. go multitasking!
but, as i get back from summer activities, i go to people, and say, 'read this book. or die trying not to'. then i show people the website. i can rant about this book for hours trying to get people to read it.
i have searched everywhere in my area for people who have even just heard of it. no one has.

now, let me ask you, fellow pellinor fanatics, WHY DOES NO ONE IN THE UNITED STATES APPRECIATE OR EVEN READ THIS BOOK!!!!???? -eats caps-

okay. random post here. but, just had to get that out.

so, anyone who has anything to say about pellinor in the US, pleasepleaseplease talk about it here. i do not like being so alone in my fanaticism.

I am alos amazed more ppl have heard about it, I myself nvr would have found out about it unless, being the book freak that I am go to booksamillion/barnes and nobles and just brwose for books. I think they should get more publicity or something to get more ppl reading them. They are really good books, if we could get them going around ppl, would be all over them. Its like when everyone is reading this one book at the same time, we need to get a bunch of ppl to read them so it starts circulating and then those ppl tell other ppl to read them as well. anyways, (stops 4 breathe of air) I hate to say that americans are lazy and just dont want to read there are plenty who arent and all, I myself am obsessed with books! But these days, less and less ppl (regretablly) read for fun and all, its kinda sad actually, Anyways, Dont' get me wrong, im not saying all americans are lazy or anything(considering i am american! ) but alot of my friends would rather do anything than read for fun. But then again, I have a lot of firends just like me as well, so it just varies I guess, anyways, now i am rambling as usual, i think they just need more publicity...or not more...but SOME!!!! I DONT THINK THEY HAVE GOTTEN MUCH US PUBLICITY WHICH IS THE MAIN PROBLEM, ANYWAYS, HAVE TO GO, SCHOOL 2MORROW...OOPS, stupid caps locks, k, bye

Hello aedhe and piglover - the Pellinor books are actually very new in the US - The Naming only came out there last year and The Riddle is just due for release - and it is a HUGE market, with hundreds of books coming our every year. It's difficult for any new author to get any notice, and I am pleased that there is any, to be honest! It's had very good reviews and a fair bit of notice for a newbie. I am very happy with my publisher, who are right behind the books. What makes the real difference is readers like you - people enthusiastically telling others about them. If you keep doing that, eventually more and more will hear about them!

Hey Alison! They bad thing bout living in the US is that we seem to get UK/Australian written books later. But thank goodness for Amazon.com! I wouldn't have made it that long with out it! But don't worry I'va already told my friends about your books, I'm sure aedhe has too.
It is a very hug market, it seemes everytime I go to a bookstore (which is quite often ) that there are at least 10 or many more new books out! I just hope more ppl find out about it, but of ourse you do as well. Anyways, im rambling now as usual, good to talk to you alison.

Hi aedhe, piglover and alison(luv your books btw) .Ummm Ive started a little project it goes like this ; Step 1. I tell five people or more, about the series (and let them borrow my book of course) Step 2. Each of those five people that enjoyed the books tell five more people ,who in turn tell five more ,who tell five more and so on

So far ive told 2 of my friends (most of my friends either shun fantasy or just reading in general im working on them though ) and ive told my brothers ,all three of them. I actually got them to start reading the first book!!,they were a little apprehensive because the main character is a "girrul".I still have to fulfill my requirement of at least five people because my bros are most likely notgoing to tell their friends, guys are lame like that*shakes head and rolls eyes*.

Annyway i will continue to share the joy and update you guys (if youre inerested) on how many people have read the book because of this eensy little project.

gosh my own brilliance surprises me more and more each day

I have a fun idea! Stupid, and if you're a minor or are in school theres a small chance you'll be able to do it, but....

Everbody who lives in the United States, camp out at/outside your local
    Barnes&Noble / Borders / Bookstore of Choice
the night before the Riddle comes out [August 8th, according to Amazon.com, but might be different]. Bring absolutely everybody you know, whether they like fantasy or not. Then as soon as it opens, rush into it and scramble to find the book. Buy it. Get everybody you know to buy it. Get the first copy of it! WOOT! Then you will have the book as soon as possible.

Alternatively, you could try to arrange one of those midnight-stay-up-late-and-get-book-at-twelve-a.m.-midnight-therefore-getting-it-as-soon-ashumanly-possible things they have for the Harry Potter books, you could do that. But It'd be hard on such short notice. And whoever owns the store porably wouldn't do it because it's a virtual unknown.

RAN-dom! But, thats me, ADHD and all.... :]

That sounds cool im strange and might actually do that midnight camping thing . I wonder if sleeping outside a bookstore is considered loitering.

piglover!!! i second that thought! and maybe third it as well amazon saves my life. but i was looking for the riddle in the shekves today and i couldnt find it!!! unbelievably (even though i have it already, i like to see if its on the shelves! ) and ive gotten about three people to read it now too! which i guess is a start, but what would be great is advertisement, which would cost to much money though! there i go with my stupid ideas again! haha anyhoo just thought i'd add my two cents!!

what i do to get the boooks notice is this.

    • move the books from where they are placed on a shefl to the center of the book case at eye level with the covers showing instead of the spines. this way its more noticeable
    • i walk up to where they are in a shop and if someone is there i look at the books and then sigh lovingly. either the person will not acknoledge you or will then look at the books after youve gone.
    • Go to where they are in the shop when someone is there. look at alod of random books then ask them if they have anything they could reccomend. after theyve spoken go "oh well i highly reccomend these books *get out a copy of the gift* i recon this authors the next Tolkien!
