Funny, been on this site for years, and never once came into this forum. And yet I'm a gamer. Yesh.
Anyway, JRPG's. I've never played them till recently, and I have to say, I love them. Just so different than western RPG's.
So, I'm played FF XIII for about 30 hours last year, never finished it, but did enjoy it immensely. (I know alot of fans didnt like it, but, I did!).. So, I'm up in the air on what to play next. I've become a little worn out with all the actions games recently (Far Cry 3, Dead Space 3, etc)...So, onto a JRPG. Choices...
Final Fantasy XIII-2.
No Ni Kuni (New to the PS3)
Xenoblade Chronicles (WII U. Very rare, I'm very lucky I have a copy. If you have one, keep it, or sell it for mega bucks!)
The Last Story (WII U, getting rare.)
Valkyria Chronicles (Cheap, picked it up for 19 bucks)

JRPGs are my favourite genre. I havenít played FFXIII though. I donít have a PS3, and I havenít finished playing all the PS2 RPGs I want to play.
If your PS3 can play PS1 games (some if not all versions of the PS3 can), I would recommend:
- FFVII and VIII (FFVII topped GameFAQs.comís top 100 games of all time)
- Star Ocean 2 (The Second Story)
If you have a PS2, I would recommend:
- The FF games
- Legaia 2
- Persona 4

I used to love JRPGs, and consider the best of them to be equal to the best fantasy stories in any other medium. It's different from a book or a movie, in that the interactive element makes for a more submersive experience.
Most of my favorites are from the golden age of Squaresoft circa 1991 - 1997.
Final Fantasy VI is one of my all time favorite video games, and one of my all time favorite fantasy stories. If you haven't played it, do yourself a favor and check it out.
Final Fantasy VII is the most popular one, and definitely had a bigger impact on gaming. When it came out it was my favorite game of all time, but I've found that the reply value isn't as good as VI or some other games. This probably has a lot to do with not having access to the world map until many hours into the game (one of the same reasons I haven't played FF13 yet).
Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger are also excellent Square games from this time period. I'm playing the 3DS remake of FFIV on my Android phone, and it's also available on iOS. Hard to believe that a smartphone is so much more powerful than a Super Nintendo that it can handle a 3D remake of the game while also running multiple other operations!
Some other series that spring to mind are Lunar, Suikoden, Wild ARMs, Breath of Fire, Lufia. So many good SNES and PS1 RPGs. Unfortunately, JRPGs (and RPGs in general) require a lot of time. Time which I'm lacking these days, and so I haven't been able to commit to them as much, but I do routinely replay my holy trinity of Final Fantasies (IV, VI, and VII). The last two JRPGs I remember playing for the PS3 were Folklore and Nier. And to be honest, my favorite RPGs for the PS3 are not JRPGs, they are Bioware games - Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

I have a continually rotating top spot on my all time favorite game list, and it usually consists of FFIV, VI, VII, Tactics, Suikoden II, Earthbound and Chrono Trigger. FFIV was the first RPG I ever played. I still can feel the sting ofSpoiler:betrayal when Kain turned on Cecil (though we later find out it was partly the fault of Zemorus..but that seed of jealously Kain had still existed on its own)
