Today's pick for me, is a beatiful, poignant folk song about hope and escape... Stephen Fretwell's New York.
Please can we go away, get out of here somehow today
to a place which I've heard on the radio never sleeps
I'd get a job in a bar, and you could be a waitress and serve cheap cigars
to fat, moustachioed men in suits, you'd look cute...
and f**** what they say, f*** it if they talk
it really don't matter
we're going to new yorkLast edited by juzzza; January 24th, 2007 at 07:45 AM.

Sorry to hear about the book, that sucks.
Nice choice of song though! A little upbeat for a melancholy song imho, but I am a depressing git at the best of times.

Thanks Jacquin. I never expected the book to win. In fact, I was honored that it was in contention. It received a lot of attention because of this and it should make the sale of the next two in the series much easier. So nothing at all was lost. I'm just disappointed.
I'm a bit of a depressing git as well. It helps me to write though...

Depression the theme?
"Debaser" by the Pixies. Love the deadpan backup vocals contrast to the over the top 'oh-oh-oh!'

Can't anyone figure out how to post links to the songs?

I guess copyright is an issue, but there's always My Space!

Jacquin, listen to Goodbye from Patty Griffin's Flaming Red CD. Not really depressing, but its got that tone to it that makes you feel, well, depressed but in a good sort of way.

She's really good isn't she. I know what you mean about feeling depressed in a good way. I love music that makes me feel introspective, espcially when I have a beer in my hand and the house to myself.
I think tomorrow might be a day for something a little less cheery...

Gary... I told you about him twice last year!
Especially BECAUSE of New York... I told you it was Ellie and I's song.

Today is a little quieter for me. I am still not feeling great but a lot better than yesterday.
My song for the day is Underneath the Stars by Kate Rusby, a friend gave a a copy of her first album in 1997 and I instantly fell in love with her voice. I love everything she's ever done with the possible exception of the duet with Ronan Keating which is no better than ok imho.
Check it out here
