Lyre
As promised...here's some photos of the replica of Maerad's lyre I'm making (with a bit of dad's help!).

It's not finished yet, and we haven't been able to work on it much in the past few weeks, but from now on I'm going to try to keep everyone up to date. We've got basically everything we need- now we've just got to figure out how to put it together!
The crossbar is actually brass- probably not true to the book, but that made it easier to put together and stronger.
So anyway...how does it look so far???
By the way, I don't know if this should be a new thread but I didn't know where else to put it

Wow!

That is AWESOME!!
It looks really like Maerad's.
Yeh you should carve the treesong runes on like Sirkana said.
I could make the tuning fork and have the other half of the treesong.
but then I'd have to sing, wouldn't I? Oh dear. I'm a bad singer...
Maybe not.
It's still awesome though.

I've actually written music for the Lay of Andomian and Beruldh, which I can play on piano, but I wrote it so that I could play it on a diatonic lyre too (which is what this one is). I also put music to the ballad thing in the appendices of the riddle, the one about Ardina, but I don't know what it's called...

My mum's pretty clever with music software stuff, so I may be able to upload it onto another site and post a link...that is once I teach myself to play the lyre! I could just record it with piano, but I'm not very good at that yet. I need a male voice in The Lay of Andomian and Beruldh, which is hard to find where I live, cos it's not a very musical town. But I will try to upload them somewhere...sometime...
