having recently started on Harry Dresden books, I would like to see a magical FPS developed with a decent physics engine for interaction with the world. I would prefer Half-Life 2 over Crysis engine, because my hardware isn't all that powerful

It would appear that Tad Williams' Otherland is being made into an MMO RPG.
I always thought the Otherland books hingd on a great concept - someone else seems to believe it as well

Due to the (hopefully temporary) disappearance of the GRRM forum, I'll post this here. It's the report of how my first game of *Westeros: Total War* went (with screens).
This was the first go as House Stark. I decided to be bold and replicate the Stark strategy from the books: advance as fast as possible with the starting armies and kick some arse. Since House Stark has virtually no money and is in the red within 3 turns of starting the game, it's not like I had anything else to do![]()
So, I rapidly advanced down the Neck and combined my three armies (under Robb, the Greatjon and Roose) for an attack (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0035.jpg) on the Twins. I possessed overwhelming superiority (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0036.jpg) of numbers and due to engine limitations the Twins are nowhere near as formidable as in the books, but the Freys' defensive position was still strong.
Battle was joined (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0037.jpg) and I breached the gates (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0038.jpg) in short order. The struggle inside the gates was bloody as I was charged by the Frey cavalry (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0039.jpg), but I emerged trimuphant (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0040.jpg). The surviving remnants of the Frey host took shelter outside the castle (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0043.jpg), but this strategy proved inadequate (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0044.jpg).
After savouring the moment (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0045.jpg) I continued the advance. I split my forces, Roose Bolton taking the bulk of the foot and the archers down the Trident towards the ford, whilst Robb and the Greatjon pressed on into Tully lands, sweeping past our allies in Riverrun (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0046.jpg). Obviously the advance had been so fast the Lannisters had not had time to begin the siege, and I was able to identify Jaime Lannister's position (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0047.jpg) near the Golden Tooth. I besieged his camp but the Lannisters rallied and hit me from all sides (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0048.jpg).
Although the numbers were against me, they arrived on the battlefield in piecemeal fashion, and I was able to bring my full army against each group in turn, destroying them in detail. Jaime's forces arrived on the battlefield and as his and my infantry and supporting cavalry engaged one another (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0050.jpg), I spotted his bodyguard and had Robb charge him (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0049.jpg). This proved unwise and Robb had his arse handed to him. Luckily, the Greatjon spotted his lord's peril and rode into the fray, killing Jaime Lannister in the face (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0051.jpg). I would have preferred to ransom him, but that's the way battles go sometimes. The butcher's bill was heavier (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0052.jpg) this day, and Jaime killed about 30 of those men by himself, but victory had been achieved.
Although my forces had been decimated, a severe lack of funds and a lengthy reinforcement distance (the Twins was my nearest base and was a good 3-4 turns away) meant I had no choice but to press on and besieged the Tooth. Fortune smiled on me when it turned out that Tywin himself was within the castle (http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...l%202/0053.jpg) with only a modest force to defend him.
Meanwhile, in the east Roose Bolton met with Arryn diplomats near Saltpans and forged peaceful trading relations between them and the Starks, before crossing the ford, brushing aside one of Joffrey's forces which had been skirmishing up towards Harrenhal (which remains in Tully hands) and launch an exploratory reconnaisance towards King's Landing. Whilst I doubt I have the men to take the city, I may have enough to besiege it.
All to play for next time![]()
No recommendation for an MMORPG in Erikson/Esslemont's world yet? All the various continents, cities, islands, cultures, seas, creatures and potential quests/items is ripe for it. Yes, I know the two of them created the world when playing RPG games, but a game based upon a world based upon a game. Oh yeah, baby! Just like at the barber's looking into the mirror before me that reflects the mirror behind me, that reflects....you get it. Bring the feedback loop to it's inexorable critical point, hee.
P.S. I call 'dibs' on the +25 damage/+10 hit Otataral Sabre of Righteous Justification. Olé!!!

Malazan MMORPG? Nope wont work. To many Overpowered classes/races. Unless I get to play as the one in only jhagut in the game that is. Then it will be fair and balanced.
Dang it! Double post again. The real one is below. Refresh rate on this browser is going to put me into a frothing frenzy.

Yeah, it would be tough to conceptualize when the notion of hit points would be meaningless for classes such as T'lan Imass. Maybe bone points! For each piece of bone or dessicated skin/tendon/muscle lost, the overall 'health' of the character dwindles. Mmm....maybe. It'll take more thought. However, it might be the first time that one would be able to actually role play as an undead character. It's got promise.
You have a gift for understatement, sir.Originally Posted by Werthead

I won't post all the details of everything that happened next, but it was quite cool. Robb and the Greatjon rampaged around the Lannister homeland, sacking and abandoning castles having taken every gold coin they could carry, but in the end were killed by a Lannister force (although they took Tywin and Sandor with them). Roose captured King's Landing and Rosby, killed Joffrey, forced Tommen to become his vassal and then killed Stannis and Alester Florent and destroying Stannis' faction completely.
The Greyjoys launched a multi-pronged invasion of the North and the Lannister and Tully coastlands, taking Flint's Finger, Seagard, Banefort and the Crag. My counter-attack retook all of these castles and Great Wyk, but my attempts to invade Pyke and Harlaw were beaten off. I blockaded the islands instead and invaded the Lannister lands. At this current a moment a joint Stark-Tully army lays siege to Casterly Rock! Good times.
