Any book on here rated 7 and above has been reread 2-3 times at a minimum. This top list excluding brand new series(Erikson, Butcher) have been reread a minimum of 5 times each. Anything rating below a 4 had trouble keeping my interest and may have forced me to stop reading it at some point. I included a few Sci-Fi series on my list because they deserve
to be mentioned. I refrained from listing them in my top books because this is a fantasy roll call. I've also read all of DragonLance and D&D and because of the wide variation I'm not going to list them here.

Another thanks to Big Naruto. I've been cross referencing the lists in this thread to update my wish list on Amazon. I'm can't wait to get to the series by Mieville and Kearney.

Yeah I'm glad I found this thread...think I'll pick up some Riftwar based on a few of these posts.

Are there any other series that might be a little quicker of a read? I know this thread's a little old, but if anyone had any input, I'll be checking in.

    Barb & J C Hendee : Noble Dead - 7
    Walter Jon Williams : Dead Empire's Fall - 7

    not recommended:
A song of Ice and Fire - 4 (too dark: the author seems to derive sadistic pleasure in killing off good characters and let evil triumph)
Sword of Truth (except first book) - 2 (characters lack complexity, bland and repetitive plot, obtrusive preaching of reactionary world view)
Sword of Shannara - 2 (badly written LOT rip-off)
Malazan Book of the Fallen series - 4 (very confusing, no likeable characters)
Chronicles of Thomas Covenant - 3 (imagine the most obnoxious man you know, your neighbour or some teacher - would you want to have him catapulted as the hero into your fantasy world? I read fantasy to forget about people like him, so this is too much of a shock for me.)
