Just ordered Cordelia's Honor, The Crying of Lot 49 and The Best of Gene Wolfe.
Just ordered Cordelia's Honor, The Crying of Lot 49 and The Best of Gene Wolfe.
Supposedly the last two books I'll buy this month:
The Honor of the Queen - David Weber
Mass Effect: Deception (Unconfirmed title) - William C. Dietz (Pre-order from TBD)
I was just the winning bidder on a first edition hardback copy of Pump Six and Other Stories by Paolo Bacigalupi. The book is described as "like new" and I got it for $62.07US (roughly $58AUS). I've seen the same edition going for a couple of hundred bucks or more so I think this was a bargain, but I'll only know for sure once I get my hands on the book and see what condition it is in. This will look good next to my first edition hardback of The Windup Girl.
In a fantasy-centric package from Amazon I also got:
Blackout by Connie Willis...gonna double dip and do both the Fantasy AND SF book club discussions for May!
Gridlinked by Neal Asher.
I'm slowly building up my collection of the Polity based series. Even though I've already read them.
I just ordered Hull Zero Three by Greg Bear from The Book Depository (UK).
Also just picked up Dune by Frank Herbert (for 50p from a sale). I've started it and like it a lot so far. I am finishing The Naked God at the moment by Peter F Hamilton, and I can't help but keep thinking, if you can get Dune from 500 pages, was the 3600 pages of Night's Dawn really worth the effort?
Zima Blue - Alistair Reynolds
The Lost Fleet: Fearless (I think. #2, anyway) - Uh... I forget
As a correlation to my post in the fantasy version of this thread, I dropped off a bunch of paperbacks at the local Half Price books and traded them in for the following books.
- A Canticle for Liebowitz by Walter M. Miller
- Dorsai! by Gordon R. Dickson
- Hell Hath No Fury by David Weber & Linda Evans
- The Giants Novels (a mass-market paperback omnibus of Inherit the Stars, The Gentle Giants of Ganymede, and Giants' Star) by James P. Hogan
- The Boat of a Million Years by Poul Anderson
- Three Books by Elizabeth Moon: The Speed of the Dark, Trading in Danger, and Marque and Reprisal
Recently bought:
Ciaphas Cain: Hero of the Imperium - Sandy Mitchell
Ciaphas Cain: Defender of the Imperium - Sandy Mitchell
Blood & Iron (Penrose #2) - Tony Ballantyne
I just ordered four books from Amazon.co.uk, taking advantage of FREE Super Saver Delivery:
- Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton
- Judas Unchained by Peter F. Hamilton
and two fantasy books.
Moxyland - Lauren Beukes
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay - Michael Chabon (I think it's SF, could be wrong)
It's not really SF - the closest it comes as I recall is that there are elements of magic. It's a good read though with excellent characterization and I liked it a bit more than The Yiddish Policemen's Union.
edit - I see it's also slated as a movie release for 2012...

You're right, Ropie. I'll likely discuss it in the 'Non-Genre' topic once I get around to it.
Completely forgot about this:
Trading in Danger - Elizabeth Moon
And I've also placed an order for:
Engines of the Apocalypse - Mike Wild (I guess it's SF, could be wrong as I was above).
