I guess your local equivalent of Barnes & Ignoble didn't carry it. Hardly surprises me, a lot of the big chains tend not to carry the mid-list stuff.

I don't think it actually got published in the UK and Australia (and Canada???). I had to get it shipped from the States...

That's true-- I didn't think of that. Don't the stores carry imports?

Not your major chains. Some of the specialist stores, but unfortunately we don't all have access to those.

Barnes and Noble is where I found my copies of BOT and HD.....

Mamb - i had to order mine from the US amazon. Actually doesn't work out that much more expensive than buying a book here, though, cos their books are so much cheaper than ours. But don't read it with sweaty fingers......it's like newspaper print!!

Amazon UK do have Heros Die. It must have come after you bought it, Sammie. And its quite cheap at £4.96.

I have a suspicious feeling, on reflection, that i found my copy via amazon.uk...........BUT - they sent it from the states! Basically they just have the sense to list some of the US stock on both sites. (Hence the cheapness of the book, i would guess). Also have a feeling that if you buy US stock from the UK site they don't charge you for the trans-atlantic mailing, which is excellent. Think that's what i might have done with BoT on reflection (Mamb having triggered a cascade of memories ).

On the other hand, if i'm wrong and they have published it here, then that's even better

Either way's fine, as long as they don't charge trans-atlantic shipping. And I'm now resigned to reading American spellings cos GRRM's publishers didn't make the effort to correct them. So it wouldn't really matter if it was a US version of HD.

Have to say, i don't tend to notice american spellings much when i'm reading a novel - although it bugs the hell out of me in medical textbooks!

I can't say I really notice them that much - It's just that I am against US spellings in principle. But I suppose in Medical textbooks, the differences would be more common, like Haemoglobin and Orthopaedics, etc.

Blade of Tyshalle, eh? I guess that's one more to add to my summer reading list (as long as Heros Die is as good as y'all say it is )

As more medical spellings, I've always favoured (or is it favored)the American spellings-- they just seemed less cumbersome. Also the American units were more intuitive than the SI units that Europe has adopted. I guess they're standing me in good stead now!
