Okay guyz really simple M+C, who will make the first move and why?

In my opinion, Cadvan's going to be the first to "break". You know, he'll say something that in no logical way could be seen as "We're just friends." And then he'll be all angsty (in a good way), and get all silent. THEN Maerad will approach him.

Essentially:

Cadvan will set it up (unintentionally, of course)
Maerad will make the overture (leaning in, making him look in her eyes, etc.)
Cadvan will seal the deal (lean forward that last half inch)

Ah. Fantasy love ;-) There is nothing better than not realizing that the love of your life has been near you all along, and then believing you can't have them. Tortured angst-love is so hot.

i think that even if she hasnt realised her feelings for cadders yet then i reckon she will eventually. the hair tuck is a sign that her feelings for him are getting stronger. i have a really good quote that relates to that actually. "A man over time falls in love with the woman he's attracted to. But a woman becomes more attracted to the man she loves." i think that applies to the M+C relationship

So! My opinion...I actually think it would be cool if Cadvan initiated it. I want him to take her in his arms and kiss her! so cliche but i don't care lol. But hey if Maerad initiates it...well don't let me get in her way! I don't care just as long as SOMEONE does something! lol

i suppose it depends. both of them aren't exactly one for admitting their feelings. and they've had rough times when it comes to love.

cadvan - he lost ceredin, who probably was his true love. and even though it was years ago, it still scars him. something that will stay with him forever. so i think he would be reluctant to tell maerad that he likes her at all. he would be afraid of hurting her, as he did ceredin. but, if he managed to forgive himself, even if it wasn't fully, he might be more willing to move on and let maerad know how he feels. but i think he has to come to peace with the fact that ceredin is dead.

maerad - she lost dernhil, who IMO was her true love. he was the first person who showed her love in the idea of a relationship. dernhil would have helped maerad, made her realise that she doesn't haeve to live in fear of men. but he was taken from her before he could show her these things. and she was taken from him, although not as extremely. and let's not forget maerad's distrust of men. yes, she trusts cadvan more than she's trusted any man in her life, but he has never made a move on her. you all remember the awkwardness she felt when he looked at her on the boat? and the confusion that followed after. and cadvan simply looked at her, and said she looked like ardina in a strange tone. but if cadvan ever kissed maerad? how would she react? she might take it brilliantly. but this is maerad we're talking about. she hit dernhil when he kissed her, and she might hit cadvan. but...perhaps dernhil's short kiss taught her enough about love, when it's joined with what she's learnt herself. that could lead to her admitting that she likes cadvan.

of course. we're all acting like M+C will happen. but who knows? apart from bridie and gemini that is. cadvan might only see maerad as his pupil, maybe his best friend. and maerad might see cadvan as her mentor and best friend. and arkan? did maerad not say something along the lines of "i love him."? so she could fall in love with him. or maybe one of them will die. i know it's awful to hear a pellinorite say it. but they could. neither of them are immortal. so one or both could die, leaving their romance untold, if there ever was one.


i want them to happen. but only if it's right. not rushed before the final battle scene. when they only kiss once and then maerad goes and dies or something.

that is what i believe. that entire post is full of my beliefs. no one elses.
well. some may agree with me on some parts. but yes. IMO dernhil was the one for maerad.

However, although I believe that Dernhil may have been Maerad's "true" love, I think that now Cadvan is more suitable than he would have been, because of what they have been through together. Does that make sense?

I agree, I believe that Maerad did fall in love with Arkan but i don't know if she'll end up with him. Maybe it's those weird kinda romances that she has and doesn't know why exactly...

haha you hit that right on the button..i agree except i dont think maerad will end up with arkan...but i also think it will be difficult for cadvan though to let go of his past because it seems like he wont forgive himself, as was shown in the sample chapters, and in the other books...

I don't think M&A will get together either, in many ways they're entirely unsuited to one another. Maybe a very short romance, but both would realise it was a mistake.
But I still think that, as things stand at the end of the sample chapters, Maerad would hit Cadvan if he tried to kiss her and the long term affects would be awful, it could shatter everything. And Cadvan's still not ready.

could be the first sign of her feelings for Cadders growing...

And I think Cadders is too much of a gentleman to 'take advantage' like that (as he sees it). Perhaps if Maerad came out with a full confession of love, he may do something, but only if she gave him a very direct and straightforward sign. But if Maerad jumped him, I can't see him running away somehow

This is a little off topic but these posts are making me teary eyed. Not a lot though but the thought of M+C happening like in DWMG re wirten dream it makes you even more sad if it doesn't happening and waiting doesn't help ethier.
