    How Would You Define "Fantasy"?

I'm new here, so if this has been discussed elsewhere, please forgive me. (I looked, but didn't see it anywhere.) What I'm looking for isn't a cookie-cutter definition. I want to know how fans of the genre would describe it. How would you define "fantasy"? What needs to be in a book to make it a fantasy book? What do you, as a reader, look for? In your mind, what's the difference between fantasy and science fiction? Can a work be both?

I'm really looking forward to hearing what you have to say.

You need to look harder. This topic has been discussed extensively many times.
