Strength comes in a whole ton of ways, but when there's so many bad things being said about females you kind of want an awesomely kick-ass one. Just like there's so many stereotypes of Sethi savages that make me want an interlectual philosopher Sethi. xD It's just one of those things, I guess.

    Glad to hear there's more.

I am a relative newby to this genre of book to be honest, but I saw the cover for Among Thieves in Waterstones the other week and had to buy, and it plunged me into the world of assassins! Looking for something similar in terms of violence, cunning, dystopia in terms of societal values etc, the next thing I bought was the entire Night Angel Trilogy.

Well, what can I say, what an amazing week and a half I had reading all three 650 page books!! I was hooked from start to finish. I like horror films and ark subject matter and these books were about as graphic as I have ever read really. I loved it!

I have since started my own thread asking for recommendations for those who like this and Among Thieves, and have had many replies which is great. There were one or two things in the series that didn't sit with me but am not sure if this is the place to discuss??

Also, how do I do a spoiler alert box? Forums, blogging and such are all a new thing for me sorry.

    Hi raz192!

If you're interested in discussing anything to do with this series, whether it's positive or not, then I think it might be a bit better to do it here:

    http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26207

As that thread seems more specifically dedicated to the Trilogy, whereas this thread seems like it covers Weeks in general. This thread would probably be okay too, I'm just guessing that that one would be better.

Also, how do I do a spoiler alert box? Forums, blogging and such are all a new thing for me sorry.
No worries, we all were new at some point. Here's an example of how to do it:

    [SPOILR] [/SPOILER]

    ^
That didn't work because I omitted the "E" from the first [SPOILR], but if you include it and spell the word correctly, then it should work for you.

    Devoured these books!

New to the site, but had to find the Brent Weeks Night Angel praise thread. I was obssessed with reading these books. I finished all 3 in about 4 days. Amazing debut, fully developed characters, suspenseful storyline.

I would highly recommend these books to any fan of fantasy who enjoys finding themselves conflicted about the main character.

I really enjoyed Night Angel, but Black Prism was awful. His rep definately took a step backwards with that book. If I were him I'd put the sequel on hold and work another Night Angel novel.

    Brent weeks

I agree, why have we not heard of Brent Weeks before. His first book was excellent, and Black Prism is also quite good - very interesting plot and a very fresh and contemporary idea for a novel.
Abercrombie's books are also great, I haven't seen a character like 'the bloody nine' in a long time. The depth is astonishing, you really do connect to his characters. Which is more than I can say for 'Eat Pray Love' by Elizabeth Gilbert.
    Do.Not.Read.
If ever there was a book that was deserving of a slow and painful incineration... then I have found it. Avoid it like the plague!

Back to 'the bloody nine' he is probably one of my favorite characters along side David Gemmel's Wallander.

Other excellent books I would personally recommend are Trudi Connavans ( both trilogies worth reading) and of course I cannot rule out 'The painted man' by Peter V Brett. Open to suggestions if anyone has read anything they particularly enjoyed... Much appreciated
