They're quick reads Took me about 2-3 days per book at most.

And yeah, the Mass Effect books tie in to the game series. Book 1 is a prequel to Game 1, Book 2 links 1 + 2, and I've (embarassingly) no idea where book 3, Retribution, ties in. They touch upon events that happen or characters, but they're not about Commander Shepard (whom you play as in the games) so I guess they're suppliments more than anything. Drew Karpyshyn is the lead writer (I think) of the game series and he's a capable author, and I can't fault either book in the series so far.

I'll get the easiest one off first,

A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin

Another one is The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rotfhuss

    Here's the remaining tally:
God of War by Matthew Stover - novelization of the best-selling, critically acclaimed PS2 video game
Shadowrise by Tad Williams (I haven't even read Shadowplay yet, but I've got it).
    Horns by Joe Hill
Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb (I know it comes out this year in the UK)
The Desert Spear by Peter V. Brett
The Sorcerer's House by Gene Wolfe
Changes (new Dresden) by Jim Butcher
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
Conquering Swords (sword & sorcery themed anthology) edited by Lou Anders and Jonathan Strahan

    Not known but hopeful -
New R. Scott Bakker, follow-up to The Judging Eye
The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch

FWIW Locus regularly updates their Forthcoming Books listing, which is where I pulled some of the books.

    Looking forward to 2009

Huge array of new books in 2006!
Any idea whether Butcher has anything else planned for the Codex Alera Series? First Lord's Fury left A LOT of openings for more plot lines.

Anyone hear anything on Blood Ninja by Nick Lake, The Holy Machine by Chris Beckett or How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe by Charles Yu (all Autumn 2010 releases from Corvus Atlantic)? Review copies of these, plus Fitch by VanderMeer, are heading my way soon, just wondering which one I should go for first.

Only thing I have seen on Blood Ninja is positive of course it is via Amazon so take it for what it is worth.

As for which book to read first, gotta go with Vandermeer.

Well some updates on more anticipated releases this year considering new books I've read and also reviews I've seen around:

Cold Magic by Kate Elliott - Early word has been good, so looking forward to it.
Vicious Grace by M.L.N. Hanover (Daniel Abraham) - 3rd book in The Black Sun's Daughter series.
The Last Page by Anthony Huso - If early word on this is to be believed, this release deserves more hype than it has been getting.
March in Country by E.E. Knight - Latest in The Vampire Earth series.
The Road to Bedlam by Mike Shevdon - 2nd book in The Courts of Feyre series.
An Artificial Night by Seanan McGuire - 3rd book in the October Daye series.
Kill the Dead by Richard Kadrey - Sequel to Sandman Slim.
A Devil in the Details by K.A. Stewart - Heard it's a decent read that appeals to Dresden fans, just got released.
Resurrection by Tim Marquitz - Sequel to Armageddon Bound.

Anyone has any more books worth mentioning about releases this year not already mentioned in the thread?
