I like the sounds of verily verily too. That would leave me one short though.

Hmmm... any jokes in the story? You can't go wrong with a nice "Ba-dum, ching!" (crap, is that 1 word, 2, or 3?)

(alright, enough procrastinating... I need to start writing mine)

The theme fits nicely with my story from last month, "Grail Overfloweth," so I decided to keep rolling and write a sequel of sorts. Ayla is a minor character in my main work, which is two books and about 300,000 words and counting (or maybe gestating is the better word).

I'm glad to finally get this idea some flesh. It's been rolling around forever. There will eventually be a longer version, but the this month's flash theme was too perfect a fit to pass up.

    What His Sister Saw

    It's 1,200 words

Who am I to pass up any word allowance
This was the last story, of the current batch, that I read in December Flash Fiction. Thus far, my early favorite.

    Okay, I'm in.

    Feels good to be back.

Story could do with a bit of a tinkering to put that extra whack of oomph into it, but I doubt I'll have the time.

I think I know what you're talking about there. It's a story element and if people want to be pissed about it, that would be their problem. At only 38 years old, I have regularly been cursed and vilified with every name in the book (too many management positions). I just take it to mean that I'm doing my job well. Should someone take cheap potshots at you for your story elements, I would say that it only means you made them think and provoked a thought they didn't like experiencing. Again, their problem.

    Dang it!

I wanted to know the ending and what would happen the next day.

You're right, of course, PW. Thanks again.

It's not like I don't stand behind the piece.

I used to be a manager, too. I recall those opinions, and how skilled I got at ignoring them, because I knew what I was doing.

Well I'm in - I really do have to get the FLASH part figured out for my next entry - I seem to run at a steady simmer. I went with a story inspired by the season and I am sure Kater will hate the ending. . Hope some of you enjoy it. Now I can get on with reading some of this month's entries.

I ran over to 1240 words. I just don't have any more time to whittle it down.
