Thread: I thought this site was PG. . .

I thought this site was PG. . .
So, I know people have mentioned the Evony advertisements before. . . But they've gotten worse. I was happily reading some posts when my partner peered over my shoulder and said:
"Are you looking at porn?"
I was surprised at this question. I look up at the top banner, and what was there? Not a drawing of an elf with heaving breasts, but an actual photo of a woman in her skivvies. It then pans down in a close up of her entire body.
Really now.
As for my location, I'm in SW Ontario, Canada, if that helps you any.

Thanks for highlighting this, Nickee.
It's clearly a regional thing: here in the UK I don't get those adverts (at least at the moment!) so obviously I feel like I'm missing out.
I've passed this along to super-Cyber-Elf to see what we can do.

I've been getting them in Australia too. (I just scroll past before I get noticed though!)

I have the Evony ads content-blocked. Unfortunately, those ads are showing up all over the place...including on, for example, Harry Potter RPG boards.
They're a plague and it doesn't seem like the ad service plans on doing anything about it.

I saw these ads myself yesterday and was a bit surprised since I really thought I had found a way of filtering out these ads from being shown at the site.
These Evony guys have a history of trying to trick the advertising networks by changing their url's and thus making it difficult to filter them out. Anyway, I'll once again try to track down where they originate from and hopefully find a way to remove them. Even though they advertise for an online game it's a really annoying type of ad so I definitely don't want them on the site.

I gotta chime in here and say how much I hate these ads too. I mean I look at this site at home and work. I dont want my wife or work mates (pretty much all gals by the way) thinking I'm accessing racy material. The current ad looks pretty much like a Maxim spread. OK in the right place but not here!
Nuff said.

Google: Adblock Plus - it makes all that nastiness go away.

skivvy ads
My Firefox browser settings block pop-ups nicely. Or is the offending skiv within the 1" top banner? If so, your buddies are more than interested in your browsing tastes.
