Neeed help identifying a fantasy series from the early 80's

My memories of this series are a little fuzzy. I recall there was a race of sorcerous women who cried tears that were made of a rare and valuable mineral. One young woman is raised without mirrors in her home for some reason. She ends up traveling with a warrior type that despises her people. In a later novel they have been forced to flee from their world into another, and if memory serves they end up as a couple. I believe she lost her powers for at least a portion of the later book.

Does this ring any bells? Any help would be appreciated.
